Good Glucose Readings

Mel391974External User
My husband is type 2diabetic, and he takes pills for it and he ate a burrito and 1 1/2 hours later he checked his sugar and read 228. What is a good number it should be and go up to, before it is to high. Thank You

A great alternative to a burrito is a burrito bowl. My husband loves them! Just meat, black beans, lettuce, salsa and cheese (no rice or tortilla). Very low carb and doesn't spike his BG.

Hello,
actually 2 hours after eating should be < 140 and even better if it < 120.
This is becuase damage to the body is known to occur at a much higher rate when blood sugars are over 140.

You should write down the testing results and take them to show your Dr.

Also ideally HBA1c (average 3 month blood sugar) should be < 7 (worst case), and ideally < 6 (truely normal is 4.3 - 4.6).

Low carb diet combined withe exercise, weight management and oral meds / insulin (as required) will all help to control blood sugar.

It is important to control sugar levels and keep them as close to normal (80-120) as possible to prevent complications from diabetes.

My doctor gave me a guide, but to be safe please check with your husbands' doc on this to make sure this info is appropriate for him.

Pre-meal glucose should be:   70 to 120

2 hours after a meal, glucose should be:  less than 180

Also be sure that your husband gets his blood tested every 90 days (or whatever schedule his doctor recommends) to insure his A1C level is good.  He will need to check with his doctor to find out what level is his ideal.

I hope this helps.
