I would like to add to Anita's solid advice. Insulin does have its adverse reactions. Excess insulin may cause hypoglycemia and hypokalemia, particularly after IV administration. Hypoglycemia may occur as a result of an excess of insulin relative to food intake. As with all medication, discuss in detail with your doctor the potential risks and advantages of the prescribe medication, including side effects. Talk with the pharmacist too.
I do not believe that I am knowledgeable concerning Insulin risk, however, I believe that most people simply have the fear of having to use the needle. I know that was mine. I am not on Insulin but rather a medication called Byetta. I must use the needle to inject the med but I do not have to regulate it as I believe those who use Insulin do. I simply must take it twice a day.
Additionally, Insulin does not get rid of Diabetes - it is simply another attempt to control it.
I hope someone with complete information can give you the answer you seek.
Good Luck - Anita
