Metformin side effects?

Hi, I am a college student who was recently diagnosed as a "pre-diabetic" and put on Metformin. I have been on this medication for a little over a week, and I have noticed that I am starting to have a difficult time concentrating and am always fall asleep while standing tired.  I am also getting light headed and dizzy even when my sugars are within acceptable range. Do these side effects go away with time or are they things I need to discuss with my doctor when I see him next.

You need to make an urgent appointment or phone your doctor urgently to discuss these symptoms with him and to get checked out to make sure you do not have any infections.

The symptoms may not be side effects from the medication, they may be a virus.  Inner ear infection; sinus infection; Urinary infection and not drinking enough fluids (especially water) can also cause some of the symptoms you mention.

You do not say what dose and which type of Metformin you are taking.  As you are pre diabetic you are likely to be on a low dose and probably on a slow release (SR)

Contact your doctor urgently to find out if these symptoms are from the Metformin or caused by something else.

i have been lucky with metformin, no side effects. However, some folks have experienced feeling dizzy, light-headed, tired, or very weak;

A call to your doctor may be prudent. Perhaps the dose is too high   Nonetheless a call  will put your mind at ease.
