Metformin

I have shortness of breath and trouble swallowing since I have been taking metformin 1000 mg. At least I think it is coming from taking the metformin. Has anyone else exprienced this?

I have had the same side effect, shortness of breath with Metformin Extended Release. Metformin gives me a bit of a rush and causes shortness of breath. Definitely see your Doctor for that. I had to switch to Glumetza, which did not give me the problem most of the time (only mildly and rarely) but is a little less effective on my blood sugar... I feel much better on the Glumetza!

It is unlikely that this comes from the Metformin.

As Zoelula stated, shortness-of-breath is something that requires an immediate consultation with a physician.

In general side effects from metformin are more commonly gastrointestinal. You should call your doctor's office. Never hesitate with something like shortness of breath. They will tell you if you should stop taking the metformin and if they need to see you.
