Newly diagnosed

Last week I was diagnosed with insulin resistent Hypoglycemia. I am not obese....although I am overweight by about 25 lbs. I am 36 year old female. My family does have late onset history ( my dad) but he was not diagnosed until late 50's. I do exercise although not everyday. I was put on Metformin to help regulate my Insulin and told to stay away from concentrated sweets. I guess I am a little concerned about this since I am fairly young. Could something other than dietary habits be causing this fluctuation in my blood sugar?

hypoglycemia is not diabetes. That just gives the doctors more confusion and they are confused enough. I have had low blood sugar with the gtt but know I had the symptoms when I was young. I have yet to find a doc who knows more than any layman who has to cope with it. Most of them do not understand the term even.

Anybody knows a good doctor in Falls Church or Wash DC area please tell me.  I would also be glad to go to NIH in Bethesda.

Thanks

For clarification Hypoglycemia is Type 1 Diabetes. This forum is for T2's, Hyperglycemia.

Issues with your thyroid misfiring. Get a TSH test. Losing weight even a few pounds have been shown to improve blood glucose levels. In the diabetes world being 25 lbs overweight is borderline obesity.
