Please respond quickly!!

Is 500 mg of Levofloxacin every 48 hours suppose to make a 70 year old diabetic dialysis patient drowsy, fatigued, emotionally disturbed, and delirious?

Is it okay to stop the continuing dosage after seeing the affects of the first dose?

This medication did the same thing to my mom just a couple of weeks ago, especially the emotional upset and the delirium part.  It was terrible.  I also recall that it did the same thing to my grandfather when he took it several years ago, too, so we immediately put this on their lists of "DO NOT USE."  We stopped it immediately after the 1st dose when we saw the affect it had on them.  So, I don't know if it is "normal" or not, but I can say for sure that it does happen, as I saw it with my own eyes, not once, but twice.

We usually can respond to questions/concerns regarding diabetes. Levofloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat an bacterial infection, not diabetes.

Call your doctor for medical advice about Levofloxacin side effects. Be sure to inform the doctor of all medications, supplements, vitamins and aspirins you are taking. Good luck -
