Strange Symptoms?

I was diagnosed about one year ago with border line diabetes (type 2), My fasting glucose was 150, The doctor said lose weight (weight was 236), Im male, 5'10" height, I proceeded over the next year to lose 60lbs!, Im now 175, My family thinks I look gaunt and pale and think im anorexic!, All I did was cut out fats, No sugar, strictly Wheat bread, etc..., I think I look good, My BMI still say's im border line overweight?, The problem is, I still don't feel any better, I get dizzy alot, Always tired, Weak, Nausea, Frequent nightly urination, Is it possible to lose all that weight and cut out sugar and still have diabetes?, Can't believe I did all this for NOTHING!

I agree with what the two posters above said. In addition I found it strange that with a fasting blood sugar of 150 you were told you were "borderline diabetes" (the correct term is pre-diabetic). Anything over 126 fasting is considered diabetes. You definitely need more testing. Keep up the good work on the weight control. Some people can control diabetes for awhile with just diet and exercise and weight management, but it is a progressive disease and you may need more help.

Sally is right, go see your doctor and get tested. Aside from diabetes there are numerous other causes for "Always tired, Weak, Nausea, Frequent nightly urination". If it is an infection waiting only allows it to spread further causing more harm than good.

Hi,

of course you didn't do it for nothing!  It is far better to be a healthy weight than overweight and you look better and surely feel better than you did at 236.  Are you able to exercise?  This will also help. Don't get too hung up on the BMI, it doesn't take account of muscle mass.

It is however, still possible that you have diabetes.  Have you seen your doctor?  Do you monitor your blood sugar.  You need to monitor blood sugar and get your HA1c tested - this will tell average blood sugars over the past few months.  If you do have diabetes will be much easier to manage if you have normal weight and with the good eating habits you have now.

Learn as much as you can.  Diabetes is definitely manageable and knowledge is power.

Best wishes and ask any more questions you have.
