Trying to figure out what is wrong with me! Please Help!

I am a 24 year old male and up until about April or May I have been pretty healthy.  This spring my health woes started as a serious lack of energy and night sweats. It seems like I am always running hot and sweat easy, feel flush all the time.  I have gained weight and had several bouts with depression and anxiety.  Just got blood work done and I am still getting it analyzed.  I have a low T4 total at 5.4, T3 uptake is low but within reference range as well as TSH.  My HA1C is on the high side at 5.7. Currently waiting for my T3 free and Vitamin D results to get back from the lab. I believe that my Aunt has Diabetes and a thyroid condition but i am not sure exactly what.  My doctor I have been seeing doesnt think I have a thyroid condition and thinks I could have pre type 2 diabetes or full on type 2 diabetes.  My bloodwork can be seen here ... http://www.flickr.com/photos/david2882/sets/72157634927354805/   ...  Hope someone can help shed some light on this.. Looking for more opinions and answers I just want to feel healthy again...

Thanks,

David

Hello,

from your results, you may be having early thyroid problem.  The T4 is low.
Ideally your doctor would conduct antibody testing.  You should have your thyroid monitored regularly now (I would recommend every 6 months), and testing should include TSH, FT3, FT4.

Your HBa1c is on the high side (though not enough to get you diagnosed as diabetic) - if you compare it to truely normal a1c, which should be in the low to mid 4s.  If your doctor were proactive he would order a glucose tolerance test.  This may develop into overt diabetes with time.

Are you overweight / normal weight?  Are you phsyically active?  Do you have any family history of diabetes (type 1 or type 2). Was this feeling of being unwell triggered by any event?  An illness?  Vaccinations? Period of particular stress?

For the meantime, please focus on eating a lower carb diet (no softdrinks, fruit juices, limit rice, bread, pasta, etc), and exercising regularly.  I would be treating myself as if I had diabetes already (in terms of diet and exercise with this A1c).

I do beleive this is something that should be watched closely.

Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry for your troubles

As far as diabetes goes, your A1c is on the high side of NORMAL (wish my A1c was that low)

I cant help with the rest.
You might ask for a GTT test (glucose tolerance test)  Wide swings in BG can be tough on you and you can still still have a low A1c because you go High and Low bg so it averages out (A1c) is a test for average BG
