gastroparesis

is it possible to have gastroparesis complication before being diagnosed with diabetes, I know they say ud have to have diabetes for 10 years to get the complication but ive had medical issues for about 5 years, I had problems before that like tingling and excessive thirst but I kinda ignored it and never said much about it when I was younger.....I took a ogtt test 2 years before they finally diagnosed me with gastroparesis and my sugar just dropped right away I don't think it even went up at all.  I thought I had diabetes cause I did a random test one time with my dads meter and my sugar was over 400.  Could the ogtt be affected if I had gastroparesis bad at the time I did the test.   If I was affected by it then how will I know if I have diabetes....My symptoms other then nausea are lightheadness, peee a lot at times, and sometimes I cant pee much at all....headaches, faintness at times, tingling in hands and feet etc....

Do get your other problems checked out too by your doctor.

Hope all goes well and you get sorted out soon.

Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes.

Gastroparesis is a long lasting condition where the stomach does not empty itself of food in the normal way.

This is not caused by a blockage, but by a problem with the nerves or muscles controlling the emptying of the stomach which causes the movement of food slowly.

It is impossible to say that you had diabetes and whether the tingling in your feet and hands and the urination problem was/has anything to do with diabetes.   It is possible that you may have had undetected diabetes and those symptoms were nerve damage due to high sugar levels.

With regard to the urination problems I would advise you to make an appointment to see your doctor to get this checked out as the symptoms may be due to too much sugar in your body, or a urinary infection.  If you are experiencing a problem to urinate when you have an urge, this can be from a prostate problem and you should also get this checked out.  It is a very simple and painless test that your doctor does at the appointment.

Pins and needles in your hands and feet may be related to spinal problems, carpal tunnel problems with regard to hands, lower back problems with regard to your feet, or from nerve damage if you had diabetes when high sugar levels were not controlled..  Your doctor will be able to refer you to a neurologist to find out if there is any problems with the nerves.

A HBA1C blood test would show the average blood glucose levels in your blood over an approximate period of 3 months.  And it would depend on the reading whether you have diabetes.  Sometimes A glucose test would is done.

Feeling of nausea is a typical symptom of  gastroparesis, but as you have light headedness with your urine problems, you may have a urinary infection.

Make sure that you drink plenty of water so as not to get dehydrated.  Because you have a stomach problem I would suggest little sips often.

Make an appointment with your doctor and take a list of your symptoms with a morning mid stream urine sample.
