scary

I checked my blood sugar at 8:30 (after dinner at about 7 p.m.) and it was 140.  I ate most of a small apple because I did not want my sugar to go too low before bed because I have had some truly ugly overnight lows (48).  At 10:20, my blood sugar was 220.  What's up with that.

What kind of dr. are you seeing?  A primary or an endocrinologist?  I stopped seeing primaries cuz they seem to be dumb when it comes to these things.  I am sure they are educated in it and know the information... but they don't seem to have time for them.  My newest primary actually told me to see an endocrinologist because he didn't want to steer me wrong.

When I had gestational diabetes before Type 2... my lows overnight also would reach upper 40's and low 50's.  EVERY NIGHT.  My husband brought me breakfast in bed every morning cuz I was so dissoriented and I kept peanut butter crackers on my night table.

That isn't happening anymore... I wake up in around 80-95 now.

Wow, I know I can usually tell that I'm having a bad low because the pounding of my heart wakes me up. My doctor is an idiot. I told him that was happening and didn't act as if it might be something scary. Thanks for the heads up.

"I ate most of a small apple because I did not want my sugar to go too low before bed because I have had some truly ugly overnight lows (48)."

First, what is your doctor doing about your hypoglycemic condition (48)? Are you sure this is an accurate reading? A reading of 48 mg/dl is almost certain cardiac arrest and/or fatal. You need to see your doctor for a complete glucose evaluation.

Second, apples have high fruit sugar (fructose) contents and your body, like mine, appears not to tolerate high levels of fructose and reacts as if real sugar has been consumed. If you wish to eat fruits, eat fruits with low fructose levels like melons or berries. This Web page lists high sugar and low carb fruits http://tinyurl.com/5cfb4t . However, it list Loganberry as high and berries as low. Huh? Loganberry is a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry. Neither are to sweet nor affect my glucose level, but each person differs.
