i'm a mess

i am a 48 yr old f, dx with type 2 diabetes 3 wks ago.  i was walking around with a fbs of 505. my doc started me on janumet 100/1000mg od.  i have been following a 1600 cal diet using 100gm cho, in the form of fruit, veg, whole grains. my bs has gradually come down.  this am fbs was 274.  symptoms of extreme thirst, blurry vision, fatigue have resolved.  i need to lose 50 lbs and will begin an excercise program as soon as my broken foot heals. hemoglobin a-1 was 10 alt 209 ast198.  should i seek more agressive treatment?
thank you

Hi,
It looks like the Janumet is doing some good already, and you are following a diet plan that will also help a great deal.  Given that your glucose readings are still so high, I think you will likely need some additional treatment to help bring your levels down into a better range. It may not be permanent--once you are able to lose some weight, you may not need as much medication to keep your glucoses down. Give your doctor a call and ask about adding another medication, and keep on with the diet. Be sure to add exercise gradually as well, with your goal being 30 minutes a day.You are doing a good job so far.
take care.
