please help !! low symptoms with normal blood sugar??

i have been having symptoms of low blood sugar , weakness tingling and especially rapid heart rate and very strong heart palpitations..... i started having these symptoms after stopping metformin, i tried to restart it but the palps got so bad i thought i would die.....my blood sugar level is great i take it about 8 times a day (because i am not on meds or insulin) and between 80-110 i feel like i have felt in the past when i was at 40 or 50....any ideas please advise me - also my endo says that if my blood sugar is fine then this shouldnt be happening and all tests blood and heart and thyroid are normal as well, i am at wits end and miserable, the palps are much worse after eating also...

HI,
I think you may have something similar going on. i.e you have relatively higher numbers dropping fast to lower numbers, although the end number itself is not that low. A 3-hour glucose tolerance test may help determine this, or you on your own can check BS before eating then about 1 hour afterwards then later when you start having symptoms.

Hi

I am 42 years old Male, diagnose with DM about 6 months ago. Was put on Metformin for a few weeks but taken off due to hypoglycemic reaction. Now just like 'hmcurrie' my BG, HbA1c, TSH, Renal functions everything is normal.

But I too keep having this sporadic hypoglycemic-type reactions with nervousness, shakiness etc which goes away after sucking on a candy or taking some sugar directly. The funny thing is that when I measure my BG using my glucometer during these reactions, it's always normal..

My doctors are clueless. Can anyone help me find out more about this - is it reactive hypoglycemia, andregenic postprandial hypoglycemia or just a reaction to my anxiety about my condition. Would really appreciate any help or advice.

Hello,

Sometimes people have symptoms of low blood sugars when they experience a sharp drop from a higher number to a lower one even if that lower number is normal(say, a quick drop from 140 to 80 or so). This could be what is happening.
Otherwise I agree that you and your doctor should look into other causes for this. Good to know thyroid was normal. A holter monitor for instance may be helpful if not already done, medication side effects etc., even rare syndrome such as pheochromocytomas may be worth checking out given how badly you feel. Be persistent and be sure to have everything checked out.If you ever feel like you may pass out, please refrain from driving until this is solved.
Take care.
