WELL, SAW DR TO GET RESULTS OF MOTILITY TEST. I TRIED TO DO THE 24 HR TEST. I ENDED UP THROWING UP THE PROBE AFTER I ATE. HE IS NOW REFERRING ME TO A SURGEON. HE TRULY BELIEVES THAT MY VALVE IS NOT FUNCTIONING. WHICH IS WHY I CAN NOT HOLD DOWN ANY FOOD AND WHEN I BEND OVER LIQUIDS, AND ANYTHING ELSE WILL TRY AND ESCAPE. I WILL JUST BE GLAD WHEN THIS IS OVER. I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOO TIRED OF THIS. THE ONLY SUNSHINE IS THAT I LOST 28 LBS AND WILL PROBABLY LOSE SOME MORE BEFORE THIS IS FINALLY BEHIND ME. YA'LL HAVE BEEN SO SUPPORTIVE. THANKS
I had the motility testing and 24 hour probe. Apart from when I stood up initially or turned my head quickly it was ok....no gagging.
It was difficult sleeping with all the bits and bobs strapped to me and I had to pull the tube out myself and send everything back to the hospital recorded delivery. The tube was a lot longer than I had expected I wondered why my stomach had felt so sore.
I was diasgnosed with Achalasia. I also had anal motility tests.............they were fun.
Hope you got on/get on OK..let us know the results.
What kind of motility problems, and what kind of surgery? Sorry to say that the only people I know that have had it done didn't care for it much; the old gag reflex thing. I know I would never tolerate it, but everyone is different. Can they give you some sedation so that you are not so apprehensive?
THE NURSE THAT TRIED TO EXPLAIN THINGS WAS A REAL **TCH. SHE MAKES ME NERVOUS AND SHE IS THE ONE WHO WILL ACTUALLY DO THE PROCEDURE. THEY WILL GIVE ME SOMETHING TO NUMB THE INSIDE OF MY NOSE BEFORE THEY PUT THAT TUBE DOWN MY THROAT. I WAS WONDERING IF IT LIKE WHEN YOU GO THE ENT AND HE IS LOOKING DOWN YOUR THROAT WITH A SCOPE. I TOLERATED THAT AND DID NOT FEEL ANYTHING. BUT I AM LEERY OF SOMETHNG GOING DOWN MY THROAT AND STAYING FOR A WHILE. I APPRECAITE THE INPUT. BUT NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM HESITANT. THE SURGERY IS TO FIX THE PROBLEM BETWEEN THE ESOPHAGUS AND THE STOMACH, THE SPHINCTER MUSCLE. JUST NEEDED TO KNOW IF IT WORKS.
What's the name of that surgery? I thought you were referring to a different surgery for reflux when I talked about Nissen Fundoplication/sorry for any confusion.
Good luck!
I had a ph test attempted, but we could never keep the tube down. My gag reflex is too strong. For many I have heard it is somewhat uncomfortable, but very liveable. They just insert a very tiny tube up your nose and down into your stomach from there. With one end of the tube in your stomach, the other comes out of your nose, taped to your face and ear, and then attached to a box. When you experience different symptoms, you are supposed to press the corresponding symptom button on the box you wear on your hip. Then they take the chip out of your stomach and compare when you pressed the buttons to when the chip reads you were having reflux.
I had the Nissen Fundo surgery. My results were atypical, as I have heard it has been very helpful for many. Unfortunately not for me. Good luck. The ph test will be over before you know it.
