CCK/HIDA Scan - what to expect?

Hello.  I am having a CCK/HIDA Scan tomorrow morning.  I was wondering what to expect from the test?  Will they give me an injection through a shot, or will I have an IV?  I know the test will take about 2 hours.  Will I have to lie completely still for the duration of the test?  How quickly will I receive the test results?
Thanks,
Rebecca

I have been having severe chest pains that travel into my back, by my right shoulder blade and into my right side by my ribs for about 7 months.  I tried to ignore it for a while because I just figured it would go away, until one day I actually thought I was having a heart attack.  I went to the doctor the next day and they ordered an ultrasound of my gall bladder (which showed NO gall stones) and an Upper GI which said I didn't have Acid Reflux Disease, after my doc got those results she said it was probably just "musculoskeletal" or a "pulled muscle" She gave me "Bextra" (I think an antiinflammatory) and it did nothing, and I have been on Nexium, still no help.  Initially I didn't notice if the pains came after eating but now I think they might, they just come soooo frequently, even when I feel too bad to eat, it is just hard to tell.  Doc also ordered a chest xray that showed nothing, and I was in the ER a week ago where they did LOTS of blood tests that showed my pancreas, kidneys, liver, appendix and all was okay.  I am still having EXCRUCIATING pain and I am going to have a HIDA scan done in a few days.  I have read a lot of posts that talk about receiving an IV however I was told a tube would be put down my throat?  Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is different, or any opinions on whether this could still be my gall bladder despite all of the test results?  BTW I am also being checked for an ulcer.  Thank you for any advice or info! I hope all of the previous posters are feeling better!

I have been having pain/nausea... usually a couple hours after I eat.  Most of the time it's after dinner. I just had a CCK/HIDA Scan today, so I don't know the results yet.  But I already had blood tests and an ultrasound and they've all come back negative.  I'm not sure if these symptoms are more related to ulcers or the gallbladder, especially since I can't really figure out what causes the pain/nausea.  It happens most nights, but some are worse than others. Overall it's not nearly as bad as it was a month or so ago when this all started.  Would I be feeling somewhat better but still having the same symptoms now if it was my gallbladder?  I feel like they're not going to figure out what's going on... and all of these tests will keep coming back normal.  I guess there are different symptoms and abdominal pain is one of the toughest things to diagnose.  Has anyone had a similar story with this?

I am glad to see that none of you had the results I did from the scan. Within 2 hours of the scan, I had a SEVERE case of diahrea. I do mean SEVERE - I lost 5 pounds that one day. It took me almost seven days to get over it completely. I had no desire to eat anything!
My scan showed a 30%  ejection rate so I have seen a surgeon about removing my gall bladder. However, he is a bit unsure since I have an atypical presentation. My pain is just below the sternum and goes toward my back instead of on the right side. It is not always after eating. Sometimes a margarita or orange juice can put me in horrible pain but it will go away within 30 minutes or so. This has happened periodically for several years but not consistently. After this pain I usually have loose stools. I am unsure about whether to go thru with the surgery. Obvivously my gall bladder isn't going to get better but is it really my problem? Any suggestions?
My history - I am female, 42, in excellent health with a five-year old child and beginning to see signs of menopause.
