Schadzsky's ring?

I was recently diagnosed with this condition, but cannot seem to find anything on it on the Internet.

Does anyone have any experience/information on it?

I appreciate your input.

To Ryan:

I was diagnosed with this on 4/26/00 during an endoscope exam and the doctor did a savary dilation on it.  On 4/27 I had filet mignon for dinner with no adverse effects.  Before that, beef was almost impossible for me.  I found plenty of information using Altavista, the correct spelling is schatzki ring.  I am now taking 20mg aciphex for gastritis that was also found.  There was also a hiatal hernia which the doctor said was probably the cause of the schatzki ring.

They "plunged" my rings out when scoping for Barrett's Esophagus.  It felt odd, woke me a little from the anesthesia, but didn't hurt.  Sure helped the swallowing situation!

THE DOCTOR HAS NOT ANSWERED A QUESTION IN OVER A MONTH AND A HALF! I UNDERSTAND THEY'RE ANSWERING QUESTIONS AS TIME ALLOWS AND OUT OF GENEROSITY, *BUT* WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE OTHER FORUMS AND HOW THEY ARE MAINTAINED IT'S REALLY DISHEARTENING. I'VE COME TO THIS SITE ALMOST DAILY FOR A VERY LONG TIME, FOR PEACE OF MIND, COMFORT, AND TO TALK WITH OTHERS WHO SHARE SIMILAR EXPERIENCES WITH A TERRIBLE DISEASE.

MAYBE IT'S TIME A NEW DOCTOR TAKES OVER FOR THE ONE LETTING THIS FORUM GO DOWN THE TOILET.

IF NOTHING ELSE, MAYBE IT'S TIME TO OPEN THIS FORUM TEMPORARILY AS A PATIENT-TO-PATIENT FORUM. AT LEAST THEN WE COULD SHARE IDEAS AND HAVE QUESTIONS ANSWERED BY OTHERS WITH THE SAME ILLNESS, WITHOUT THE ONE QUESTION PER DAY LIMIT.

I think the patient to patient interaction is very helpfull.
I am going to guess that they are maby having $$ trouble??
This is a "not for profit" service so maby funding is an issue.
It would be nice if they posted a notice or something though....

I sent a message to the people in charge of these forums asking about the lack of answers on this forum....they were very nice and told me the doctor that answers questions on this forum had been away on vacation for several weeks, but he was coming back very soon and would be catching up.  Dee

Hi, this is too anyone who will answer.
I have been having chest pain, sometimes into shoulder and back, heart rate goes up and down, was sent by a cardiologist.  He said that I did have couple of extra beats from top and bottom of heart and that my heart paused 82 times during 24 hour period.  That I did have mild triscupid leak.  Anyway, was sent to a gastrologist, he thought I had GERD, since I do throw up every now and then, had the endoscope done, he says no signs of gerd, so I have now had ultrasound, a doctor said that I had a small sliding  hiatal hernia.(about 3 years ago)  My question is can a hiatal hernia cause your heart rate to go up and down and will it show up on ultrasound,?  The other question is can the hiatal hernia cause your chest to hurt up into your shoulder and arm and/or back? And at times just feel that there is so much pressure at the top of the tummy into the chest at bottom of breastbone?    the tummy doctor didn't say that it showed up on the endocope.  Thanks.

A hiatal hernia can cause chest pain and pain in the shoulders and arms. The Vagus nerve runs along the stomach, esophagus and the heart. It causes the pain in the shoulder and arm like with a heart attack. When the hiatal hernia is acting up, it can cause the same sypmtoms of a heart attack. Your cardiologist has ruled out heart disease. Extra heart beats are harmless. You probably are experiencing acid reflux even though the endoscopy didn't show it. You probably weren't having reflux at the time of the test. The prilosec should help. If it doesn't, there is surgery to correct the problem. Talk to your Gastroenterologist. Good luck!    Erik

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN - SLIGHT INCREASED SOFT TISSUE DENSITY IN THE SUBCARINAL REGION?

My husband was told he had a shadsky's ring that required many visits to the Doctor to be stretched with an instrument that was very hard to swallow and really only helped him a short while. I had a similar problem with swallowing and Prilosec was the answer to my problem. If I miss one day, tho' it's back.

A 3 MONTH VACATION? I HAVE ABOUT GIVEN UP ON THIS WEBSITE, AND I SEE OTHERS HAVE ALSO. IT'S PRETTY REDICULOUS THAT IT HAS GONE ON THIS LONG WITHOUT A NOTICE OR EXPLAINATION. I DON'T THINK ANYONE WILL CARE IF THEIR QUESTION IS ANSWERED NOW, CHANCES ARE THEIR PROBLEM NO LONGER EXISTS!

Reply to Christy about the chest pain.  Any chest pain should not
be ignored.  My mother went through two angioplasty and the last
one, they about lost her.  They said it was not her heart.  Well
it wasn't it was three blockages.  The first hospital blew it out
and put in a stint.  Well, needless to say it failed.  Finally
after my sister insisted that there was something wrong, they
finally got to the right hospital and found it.  She had open heart surgery and corrected it with a triple by pass. If it wouldn't have been for this she could have had a massive heart attack. She was in excellant health.  This is artery disease. No matter how she ate or excersized this still would have happened. It is hereditary.  Be careful and don't give up.  If you are having chest pain, go to a cardiologist and if that doctor blows you off go to another.  It may save your life.  Luckily my mother had no heart damage.  Do not make light of angina attacks. Read as much as you can about them.  Then get to a cardiologist that LISTENS!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOODLUCK.

The medical profession took from  1971 to 1986  to determine I had a cervical problem due to my loseing the use of my arms, when I developed excurting pain in both my arms and spasm in chest also tremor in right hand ,at that time it was determined I should be checked for cervical problems.
This was when MY CEVICAL PROBLEM WAS DIAGINOSIED <  AND HAS EXPLAINED  WH I HAVE MANY OF MY SYMPTOMS<TO PRESENT TIME>

My present Doctor , has done how many Sebstin Stess, echo grams ,doppler blood fl tests  ect.  on me tru the years ,the last in Feb. 20000 they  always come back ,negative.

I also had schatzki ring - found out after no being able to swallow any food without gagging.  Had ednoscopy then savry dilation.  Found to also have acid reflux disease and have been taking Prilosec.  Since losing 22 pounds, have had a decrease in the acid reflux symptoms.  I have been taking Prilosec for 2 years - is there another medication I can take that would be helpful and non-prescription?

Margaret:  I had been taking Propulsid until my doctor switched me to Reglan because of the problems people were having with Propulsid.  Although it is widely used, Reglan has many, many side effects.  I got to the point where I felt like I weighed 1,000 pounds, was so tired all the time that I literally talked my way home from work, my muscles ached, my joints ached, I paced in circles if I wasn't occupied doing something, I cried and didn't know why, some days I just couldn't make myself get out of bed I felt so bad.  Some days it took me 3 hours to get ready and get to work.  Some days I couldn't sit still.  I was afraid of everything.  I couldn't make decisions.  I couldn't remember what I had done 5 minutes after doing it.  I looked like I'd been through hell and back.  I thought I was losing my mind.  My family doctor finally referred me to a neurologist ... who diagnosed parkinson's syndrome, fatigue, depression, anxiety, etc., etc., etc. all due to Reglan.  I had written a list of everything that I felt was wrong and when we compared it to the side effects listed in the PDR, I nearly had them all.  It's been 12 weeks now since I took the last pill.  The doctor had me quit working for 8 weeks and released me to return 3-4 hours a day the first part of July.  I'll work short days until September and then add another hour.  Physically I'm fine now, but I'm still dealing with the emotional side.  I still have the depression and anxiety.  I have memory problems which the doctor says could take another 6 months to straighten out.  What happened to me happens in about 5 to 10 percent of people who take Reglan.  Most people do just fine on it.

If you honestly feel that your problems may be from Reglan, talk to your doctor.  Side effects from medication can really cause a mess ... I'm living it.
