chronic nausea and abdominal pain

I am female, 35, don't smoke or drink. I have had nausea and abdominal pain (mostly lrq but sometimes up towards ribs on right side) for the last 3 1/2 months. I have lost 30 lbs so far. I've had upper GI, colonoscopy, ultrasound of gallbladder, CT scans, and numerous blood test, all of which are normal, and have run a low grade fever off and on. The pain goes from a dull ache to severe, depending on activity, or if a doctor pokes around in that area. I am unable to eat/drink anything without intense nausea. I have only vomited twice, but am not prone to vomitting anyway. I've taking prilosec, didn't help, nausea meds make me more nausous, pain meds with codine take the edge off, but only take when it's really bad. The pain wakes me up at night. With all the test they've done, with nothing positive, the say it's Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but I'm not convinced, I don't feel that I have those symptoms. This originally started with fecal impaction, I was given golytely and it caused severe nausea, bloating, and no bowel movement. Then after 2 1/2 weeks of mineral oil, milk of magnesia, citracil, and stool softeners, I finally was cleaned out. However, the pain and nausea have not gone away. This has greatly affected my life. I'm not working, I'm a full-time software engineer, I have no energy, I'm very lethargic.

Any insight, or course of action would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

it is almost 3 weeks post surgery...so far so good. I know from all my research that her pain could come back at any time...the surgeon said she only has a 60% chance of being "cured" also..but what else would you do? It seems like when you read these bulliten boards that no one is better..but my theory is that once people are better, they stop posting.

I stand by my previous answer though on the HIDA scan with CCK..you want to be sure you get the test that will measure the GB's functioning level.

Nevermind, I found your posts on ivillage. I'm glad to see that your daughter has gotten the appropriate care. My frustration level is through the roof, I'm like she was, I not only do not want anymore tests, I don't even want to go to another doctor just to get the IBS or psychological answer. Hope your daughter is doing well.

Ihad all these symptoms 2 years ago
they removed my gallbladder and the camera broke while he was in there and he didn't getthe stones.I also had pancreatitus.which hurts very bad and makes you real sick.So they went down my throat to get the stones and couldn't find them.but the surgeon said he saw them.that was 2 years ago and i have had pancreatitus 6 times.last week was the last time I hope.I had a new DR.and he found them.after 2 years and a lot of pain. They removed them and said I should be fine now.I pray to GOD it is.

After six months of fighting many complaints - I have finally been diagnosed with gastroparesis (slow stomach emptying).  I have quite a complicated history if you look at some of my other posts and I won't go into all the details here, but you might want to take a look at the symptoms and discuss having a gastric emptying study done with your doctor.

Just another condition for you to look at.

I know I've looked at just about everything people have suggested and it has really helped me either rule it out or in and it has also helped me be much more informed when I visit my doctor and he explains things to me and/or I want to ask questions.

Best of Luck!

Ask for a HIDA scan with CCK. It measures how well the gallbladder is working. If you check out my other posts you will read some of the history of my daughter who is a 19 year old college student(not fat). she just had her gallbladder taken out Dec 27th, after over a year and a half of pain, nausea, reflux...different meds, etc....the ONLY test that showed anything was the HIDA with CCK, the first time she had an ejection fraction of 32%(which by MOST is considered non-functioning)..the surgeon wasn't convinced..so he ordered a 2nd one...this one was only 8%. I know how frustrating it is to have all theses tests & they come out "normal" & you know that  something is wrong. My daughter had no stones, no sludge, no crystals..EGD's normal, no ulcers, no hiatial hernias, no H. Pylori...she had 2 EGD's, small bowel biopsy, ultrasound, small bowel follow thru, numerous blood tests..we were pretty much at the end of the rope....At 2 weeks post surgery..so far so good....

so, for my 2 cents...that test would tell you one way or the other how well the GB is working.
