hey depending on how how do u say this, attentive, definantly not the right word, but depending on if u do everything they say and dont swallow when they say not to and so forth it should only take around 5-10 minutes if that. the longest part is the prep explaing the procedure getting the instruments out and actually inserting the tube as long as u TRY to stay relaxed it should be easy. try listennig to music or something to know everything will be okay, i know this probably sounds so juvinile but ill give u my technique. Im a huge fan of mariah carey, ive got like 110 of her cds and tapes so i bring my diskman up with me to the hospital and listen to a song like hero or make it happen and i feel relaxed and some of the butterflies fade. also when they are inserting the tube, im telling u this becuase ive got to get my ph probe done monday the 17 and im nervous so as im telling u this im using th4e same techniques to calm myself down. try not focusing on it, it sounds dumb, but close your eyes and imagine yourself in a place. it always works for me.!

Best of luck,
Kim

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR EXPLAINNING ME THIS PROCEDURE.  I WAS ALREADY SCARED BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT.  COULD YOU TELL ME HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR THE PROCESS TO BE OVER.  WHY DID YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS TEST.  MY PROBLEM IS THAT FOR ALMOST TWO MONTHS I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS SWALLOWING, THESE SITUATIONS GOT SO BAD THAT I ENDED UP IN THE ER A FEW TIMES UNTIL THE DOCTORS DECIDED TO DO AN ENDOSCOPY.  AFTERWARDS, THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH MY ESOPHAGOUS.  THE DOCTOR SAID THAT I COULD BE EXPERIENCING MOTILITY PROBLEMS THAT IS WHY THEY WANT ME TO HAVE THIS TEST DONE.

DO YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM BEFORE?

THANX FOR YOUR EXPLANNATION.

A BIG HUG

hey ive had this procedure done multiple times, now when i explain its going to sound A LOT worse then it really it so thats probably why the doctor didnt explain it to u. the basic procedure is similar to the procedure of the PH probe, if u havent had it, ill expalin the mannometry instead of confusing u. Okay its a small very small tube. think of a small piece of wire only a tiny tiny bit thicker than that. its clear with a silver wiring in the middle. okay first they bring u into a small room. u lay down on a table have u put a jonny ( the hospital gown on) they put sterile dressing on your chest.they have u lay on your side, depends which side the equipment it on. Then they take the small tube and thread it up one of your nostrils pull it through your entire nasal cavity (note this is probably the most uncomfortable part) there is a lot of pressure and depending on if uve had a lot of allergies they may have to pop through a small membrane then the tubes go in the back of your throat u then have to drink a small amount of water so when u swallow the tubes get guided by the water and goes into your esophugus. the tube is then attached to several channals of water. u cant feel this. The doctor then pulls the tube out slowly centimeter by centimeter and watches as he pulls the tube out and the channels of water are released how strong your esophugus muscles are as the muscles try to pull the tube down. this is down about 6 or 7 times eachj time only takes a matter of 10 - 15 seconds during the first 5 seconds you will not be able to swallow this is hard because it is an automatic reflex, but he will tell u exactly how it is done. its really not that bad and they get a lot of data from this. then they simply pull out the tube which tickles a bit then its over before u know it.
