my son had an x-ray at 9 months which showed hiatal hernia. However the pcp failed to note this. My son was terribly ill for the next 11 months c fever, retching, GI bleeding, cough wheezing and pale-yellow color he eventually needed transfusion. I finally went to pulmonologist had x-ray and A huge hernia was noted. We were told laparscopy could not be done (verbally) and a traditional cut was done. Post surgery x-ray showed a portion of the nissen was above the diaphram and just 5 months later x-ray showed that the stomach was above the diaphram. All x-rays since (my son has scoliosis show paraesophageal or hiatal hernia. My question is: Does this mean surgery failed? is hernia back (now they are referring to this as a paraesophageal hernia) The doctors never told us herina might be back so I am wondering when I see x-ray report and it shos Pre-demonstartion of hernia, does that mean there is a new issue or they are seeing repaired hernia?
is it typical that Nissen wrap would slip so soon after surgery?
Thank you
