chronic pain

I am a 26 year old female suffering from the following: severe lower back pain, abdominal cramping, fatigue and weight loss(pre-pregnancy weight 120, now at 102 ). I gave birth to twin girls one year ago and the symptoms started about 8 months ago. I also have a slight discharge but after a series of tests from my gyno including cultures and ultrasound, she does not believe my problem to be gynocological. I am now finally about to see a gi doctor in a couple of weeks but would like to know what questions to ask and what to expect....should I be worried???

I agree 100% with Nanny!

Also, might you have a yeast infection? Have you tried ACIDOPHILUS/BIFIDUS "pro-biotics" (beneficial bacteria)? Also, avoid internal tampons, which "incubate" bad yeasts (Candida, etc.).

Have you checked for possible KIDNEY or ADRENAL GLAND problems? (the back pain made me think of this).

Have you seen an ENDOCRINOLOGIST, in case of possible glandular problems?

Might you be having any SIDE EFFECTS of any MEDICATIONS you are on?? What meds are you taking???? Do you know what all the side effects might be???

Also, I would see ANOTHER GYNECOLOGIST FOR A SECOND OPINION!!!! I think it's suspicious that this happened after you gave birth. I wouldn't discount a gynecological problem just yet!!!!!

Did you have a C-section? Might there have been some COMPLICATION OF SURGERY, if you did? If so, get the records of the operation!!!

I wish you the best of luck! I hope others give you their thoughts too! I hope you get your problem(s) diagnosed and cured very soon!

Sincerely, Concerned lady

First of all, try not to worry.  I know it's hard advice to follow, but you are doing the right thing by consulting a GI, and until that appointment the best thing you can do is try to eliminate any stress, that causes all sorts of problems.  Your symptoms could be caused by any number of medical problems and a full CBC workup should highlight the problem areas.  Your fatigue, lower back pain, weight loss and abdominal cramps do appear to be of a gastroenterolgic nature, and I would guess that it may be gallbladder or pancreas related.  Your GI should pay extra attention to your amylase, lipase and triglyceride levels, if they are elevated it usually indicates a pancreas related problem.  Have you been experiencing any nausea?  The best thing now is to be prepared to ask a lot of questions and make sure the GI is very thorough, as different tests may be necessary to get to the source of your problems.  Good luck, and if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to try to help out.
