GERD pH testing

Can someone please ease my mind about the 24 hour pH testing?  I go in on Monday the 22nd.  To make a long story short I almost died from internal bleeding from reflux in January, have had Nissen Fundoplication Surgery, and continue to have throat problems since.  When I was rushed to the hospital, I had the NG tube shoved up my nose and down my throat, which was HORRIBLE and traumatic.  So, now I'm scared about the ph test.  Has anyone had it, and can anyone please ease my mind????

Thank you in advance!!!!!!!!!

Doug

Hi Doug,  I just wanted to tell you that I just had the pH monitor test last month and there really is nothing to be worried about.  It pinched a little when the nurse put it in and sometimes when I swallowed or ate, but was not at all unbearable.  You've been through a lot already as have I and compared to that, this will be a breeze.  You CAN do it:)!  I kept reminding myself it was only for 1 day...Good luck with your results.  If your throat seems sore afterward, that passes soon also...I used some Slippery Elm lozenges for their soothing and healing benefits. (My sore throat might even have been from the endoscopy I had that day also.)

Hi Doug,  I've had quite a few ng tubes and I've also had the 24 hour monitoring.  the lead they feed down your nose is a lot thinner than any ng tube I ever had.  so it went down pretty easily.  the most annoying part for me was that every time I swallowed, it tugged on the lead.  and since the lead is taped to your nose and face, it kept jerking on my nose.  I had to eat with one hand holding the lead at my nose to keep it from jerking.  but other than the eating, I forgot about it.  well, people that I passed by thru out the day stared a bit.  but that kind of stuff doesn't bother me.  good luck, I hope you get results that help out.
