liver biopsy

My husbnad is having a liver biopsy, and I was wondering if anyone who has had one, can let me know what he can expect? They have thought his pain and symptoms were pancreas but our new internal medicine doc seems to think it is his liver. Those nubmers, on the blood work, are alot worse and he has some symptoms of liver problems.(spider veins, swelling of feet and abdomen). Thanks in advance.

Most people I've heard from had no problem with theirs...I on the other hand will never have another one. I take it that the drs experience has a lot to do with it but I couldnt take a deep breath for 3 weeks and could only lay on my left side during that time. I chose not to have sedation and will never do that again. Take the consious sedation if they offer it. It only takes a few minutes to actually do the biopsy and mine was guided with a live sonogram which I understand is the best way....i just think my young dr hadn't done many of them.

Thanks so much. I do remember the doc saying they would give him a mild sedation. Iam assuming they have done several of these but truthfully, I didn't ask. Thanks for sharing your experience!
