His levels were dropping to 1.6 some of the time. He has now had barium x-rays, an esophageal manometry (to measure the motiity of the muscles in the esophagus) which was done today and an surgical evaluation for a fundoplication. We go back to the surgeon on Monday after his gastroenterologist gives him today's results. He was taking 3 20 mg Prilosec a day for 8 weeks. tehn switched him to Nexium, first 1 20 mg daily and then 2. Also takes Zantac, singulair and Mylanta as needed. The fundoplication takes the upper part of the stomach and wraps it and sutures it to the lower esophagela sphicnter (LES) muscle. It strengthens the muscle so that stoamach contents can't reflux. My son has ben having terrible chest pain and reflux. Hopefully they will think the surgery will help him . He has been suffering since he was 12 yrs old.
Thank you very much that answered my question . How did your sons turn out? What were his levels? How is he doing? Thank you again
My son had the 24 hr Ph study done in Dec. They told us normal esophageal Ph is 4-7 and anything below that showed increased acid levels in the esophagus.
Thank you for that answer i will wait to see what happens thank you
Hi,
I don't know what numbers are normal or indicitive of problems in relation to the 24 hr ph test. I had the test in the fall, and what my doctors learned from it was not only that my acid levels were abnormal but more importantly that the esophageal manometry test(the initial test once the tube is in place where they test the pressure of the valve at the base of your swallowing tube)showed that I had o% pressure at the valve and that was what was causing all of stomach acid and food to regurgate back into my mouth. Those test results have brought me to my next stage; which is Nissen surgery, where they recreate the valve.
Good Luck.
