What is the "normal" level for liver enzymes?
Tests indicate:
AST-37 U/L
ALT-18 U/L
I do not know what the above results mean; that is, do the results of the test indicate normal or do they indicate liver enzyme "elevation" and possible damage to the liver?
Also, is it possible for the liver to mend on its own, so to speak, after abstinence from alcohol (for about three months) for a recovering 8year alcoholic?
Your help is much appreciated,

I hope all goes well with your procedures. Please let me know
how you make out and I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks, I sure will. My dr said today that the liver biopsy and the scope they put down your throat to look down, may be done at the same time....I am just so ready to figure out what is going on. Thanks
Thanks for your response. I believe after talking to the technician who did the ultrasound that if you are going to have a biopsy please request that it be performed with a ultrasound so that the dr. can see exactly where the needle is going.
Good luck to you.
OHHHHH, thanks for the warning, i will be sure and ask that question...my next step is probably a biopsy, but, i dont have a gallbladder..but hey.. what are the risks in a biopsy?
