I have just been reading some of your comments and they sound a lot like mine.  I have had 4 laparoscopies for endo.   My last one was is June.  I continued to have pain, well, it turns out that I had an anal fissure.  I've been constipated for 8 months now and it's getting worse.  I feel like my donctor is not listening to me.  I'm wondering if my colon has dropped.  Help, i'm sick of the pain.

I have Drs here in Nashville. the reason my colon has to be removed, its corkscrewed, folded over, and dropped into my pelvis region I have a very dilated redundant colon. I had an exploratory lap done friday to check for recurrent endometriosis/scar tissue.  I've lived on everything known to man i end up in the hospital monthly now for impaction. Golytley doesn't even work anymore. My transit study is very sad as well, it took approx 2 weeks for the markers to get to where they should.  I'm ready to get well, and scheduled for 5/29, if i can get clean ive been on liquids now 1 week and taking mineral, enemas, etc with not much luck. I will have to cancel again if no better results.......

I think that you should think twice about a subtotal colectomy. Why does your doctor think you need a subtotal colectomy?  What is it going to accomplish??  Does your doctor really need to take that much of your colon.  If you are a nurse you know that most people have six feet of colon ... a subtotal colectomy will leave you with 18 inches.

I had a sub-total colectomy 15 years ago for constipation. I am now questioning whether I made the right decision. For some strange reason six months ago I started have problems.  Severe gas, bloating, nauseua, weight loss.   One GI doctor said my small intestine is acting as my large intestine .... if that is so it is more uncomfortable than my original problem.   I had surgery again last December and no one could find anything wrong.  I am still trying to find answers.

I would be very interested to know who your doctor is?

Well, this may sound SILLY to you BUT my CAT has a sub-total colectomy for constipation and so have several other people's cats that I know and the CATS have done extremely well so I would think in humans the surgery would work even better.  Have you gotten a second opinion?  Since this is major surgery one should always get a second and perhaps third opinion.  Good luck to you.  I am having terrible tummy problems too and it's awful, trying to find a solution.  I may need surgery in the future and I am not looking forward to it.  I had abdominal surgery over 20 years ago, it's not fun although I am assuming things are more advanced nowadays.  Let us know what happens with you.  You can e-mail me at ***@**** if you need to talk.
