continuing nausea

I'm a 21 yr old female. I play no sports and am a college student that lives at home. In march of 2002 i was diagnosd with mono. I was in and out of the hospital because i had such a bad case. Never having been sick before in my life,...it was frustrating. After i began to get better, i began to develope nausea. No particular time of the day exactly. It just came. Six months later I still have it. It doesnt correlate to whether i eat or dont eat. I've seen my physician and she put me on an acid reducer called aciphex. At first it seemed to helped, but then the feeling came back. ITs to the point where i cant even go out for fear i'll get sick. What could this be? Could it be an acid reflux thing? I have noticed i have had a bit of that. But then again, ive never had anything like that before either. Could it be that i just need a different acid reducer medication? I'm not sure what i should do, i am only 21, i cant imagine myself having a true medical problem at such a young age? PLease help me?

I had a hair analysis done by a doctor that also practiced alternative medicine. However, it did not diagnose the problem, which turned out to be gastropareis (delayed stomach emptying) I think this is a condition that is more common than thought, because the doctors aren't catching it and doing a gastric emptying test, which is easy and painless. This can cause nausea, bloating, fatigue, constipation, and other symptoms. It can come and go; it can be as a result of another illness, or following an illness; it is affected by hormones, and is different for everyone, which is one of the reasons it is difficult to diagnose. Ask your doctor about it.

See the comments above in another post about a gastric emptying test; you could have delayed gastric emptying, which could cause those problems.

A friend of my daughter's who is 20 was having a lot of trouble with her stomach after taking antibiotics. It killed the bacteria in her stomach. She decided to eat yougurt with active cultures (like Dannon...check the label)..anyway..in a few days she felt better.

My daughter just had her gallbladder taken out. She is also a college student (19)...she had been having trouble with pain and nausea for 18 months..had just about every test imaginable. Aciphex is on of the meds she tried..it made her worse! reflux so bad it was coming all the way into her mouth...

You should do some research on finding a good gastroenterologist. Obviously something happened to your system after the mono.

Good luck!

Have you been on any medications, such as antibiotics?  There are so many different things it could be.  You should get two tests done.  One is a stool analyst test done by the Great Smokies Lab and a hair analyst test.  This will show everything that going on in your gut, especially the good and bad bacteria/parasites/yeast and the hair test will tell if you have any deficiencies that would cause this.
