Throat problems - acid reflux?

Since July 20, my throat has felt swollen and tight.  At times I have trouble getting down food or drink.  I went to the ER the first night it started, because I thought it was an allergic reaction.  The doctor just gave me an over the counter drug for allergies.  Now, I am considering acid reflux.  I've had trouble in the past with heartburn.  Could this be the cause of it, and how can I go about relieving the problem?

Met with a Intergrative doctor who also has his M.D. in family practice and acupuncture, hollistic.
Went over my chart and chronic : GERD, weight loss, mvp and things we have tried.
Hope to heal and soon put some food in me and have it agree with my system. He checked my pulse and felt pvc's and my tongue for stress and malnutrition and some herbs to try. This lump in the throat and hoarseness is just another I hope to control.

Dear Karie,

Those are excellent questions! Gastric motility is not my area of expertise, so I hope you will ask your own GI doc these very important good questions! I also hope others who do know about this will share their thoughts with you. I like acupuncture (for me), if the acupuncturist is experienced, talented, and nice, which my acupuncturist is.

Keep asking these very good questions!

Sincerely, Concerned lady

Hi there - Just this morning I went to see the specialist to discuss my results from the Ph test and the test to see the tension levels of my upper and lower esophageal sphincters.  The test results showed that the tension with both of these were extremely high (compared to average tension).  I took these tests because I also have troubles swallowing food (and consequently, once throat in spasm, liquids won't go down either).  The specialist said that it was a motility problem but that it didn't fit into any of the classified motility disorders out there, so perhaps it is a new one or will develop into one of the already classified disorders.  I would see a gastroenterologist to look into the problem.

If the LES / sphincter is not shutting then what test, medication, hollistic as well is available ? The Ph test was performed months ago and was ok. Although the nurse said we should look into it further.........
Have you had this ?

Do you loose your voice , always clearing your throat and feel as if there is food stuck. I phoned my doctor and will wait for further instructions. I read muscles constricting, and Reglan is the drug they use now for motility after a test where you eat an egg with "injection dye" don't quote me on that. Hopefuly more informed patients will share too. If Nexium and Tums don't help with heartburn what have you tried ? Have you lost weight and for how long suffering ?

What can you tell us about Motility problems and maybe a natural way to strenght the LES ? Dysmotility problems can cause heartburn and would explain my full feeling and heartburn and as if food is stuck in my throat for the past 2 weeks. I hate to develop new symptoms but one doctor said until resolved this will occur. If stress caused my organs to quit working properly then would acupuncture help , I am still on DGL and read on Reglan for Dysmotility and as with other drugs we have concerns. Cause and effect. Can this be a cause ?
