I am worried about my dog

My dog is usually bouncy, energetic, fun, loving.
Today, my mum told me Barney (my dog) never slept very well last, so last night, he was whining, and moaning, which also my mum never slept.
I have tried to let him out the backdrop in to the back garden, he went out slowly, and waited at the bottom steps, (we have 3 steep steps) I got some of his diet biscuits, and held them out - he loves these biscuits - and almost looked at me pleadingly. By this point I had tears running down my face, and as people say dogs can sense sadness in humans, so I guess he sensed I was upset, he put one shaky paw up on the first step, and jumped up.
I brought his bed down, but he isn't lying on it. A few years ago, he had a slipped disk in about January/Febuary, and a few months later he had bladder stones (he had about 50 of them!) Luckily they didn't have to operate when he had the slipped disk, because it had slipped back into place. But of course they had to operate when he had the bladder stones. I am so worried, because I wouldn't want to lose him because he has grown up with me ever since I was about 2/3, I am 12 now, so he's only 11. My mum and dad are currently at work, and I am home with my sister.
What should I do?

What happened with Barney? It was very sensible of you to find out ways to help him yesterday. It did sound like he was in pain. He might have put his back out again. Margot gave you some good advice -to keep him still until you could get him to the vet to be checked.
Dogs who are in real pain will often refuse food. Yes, sleep will be hard or them too.

It's always best NEVER to give them any painkillers that are meant for humans, and to take them to the vet instead for some veterinary medicine. Human painkillers can kill dogs.

It seems like your dog is in pain and maybe it is his back again.  I suggest you let him rest and carry him to the yard to do his business.  Do not encourage him to jump or climb the steps.  It sounds like your dog needs a visit to the Vet ASAP.  Good luck
