3 yr. old Lab mix suddenly has total lost of bladder control

My 3 yr. old Lab mix has suddenly become "sad/lathargic" two days ago lost complete control of her bladder. Although there are a lot of changes going on int he home right now, it really does not seem to be behavrol. It have not noticed any blood in the urine and can not get a urine sample, she doesn't let anyone near her when she pee's. Any suggestions? We are trying to get her in to see the vet but, she is costing me  a fortune latley and I just was hoping there may be an alternative to more antibiotics(bad ears)

This happened to me recently with a dog that I could not get near, period!  I used a zip lock baggie, rolled down the edges, taped heavy strings on the side, and tied it around his waist. (Over his pee-peer). I sent him out with the other dogs and he peed right in the bag. I immediately took the bag off, cut a corner and drained it into a clean jar. It therefore was not contaminated. It worked very well and my vet said he had never heard of this before.  I told him, "Where there's a will, there's a way."  Good luck............Karla

Ours didn't even ask.  They just aspirated urine from his bladder, using a fine needle.  Its a very commonly done procedure.

There is no reason to have your dog continue to suffer just because she won't go while you hold the pie pan.  We've tried that too.  Jake won't let us near him with it!

Sorry to hear about your Lab's problems.  If you need to collect a sample, try using an aluminum pie plate...placing it under the pooch when it is getting ready to go.  It is a pain in the butt, only because you have to following them around but it works very well.  Keep us posted!

Thank you. Our vet said we had to collect a sample. I was stumped on how I was gonna go about that one.

Our dog did that recently, and it was a bladder infection.  There are other things that can cause it, so unfortunately, there is no alternative to going to the vet to find out.  They will aspirate a sterile urine sample from her, so no need to collect urine on your own if she won't let you near, as my dogs won't.

Jake didn't have any blood this time, either though he has in the past.  Just drinking lots, and uncontrollable peeing very clear urine.
