early stage kidney disease

my 2 1/2 yr. old pit mix was just diagnosed with kidney disease.  it was luckily caught very early due to blood tests to figure out why she is leaking urine at rest.  after my freak-out stage i am ready to tackle this as best as possible.  i really hope she has many more years.  the vet has put her on hills and i have great hope that a change in diet will help.  my vet doesn't think that meds are necessary right now.  please someone give me some good news that this was found early!  also, if anyone knows of a good book regarding nutrition/supplements please share.  i'm considering making her food as well if it will help.

Hello,  I just found out today that my six year old shiz-tzu has bad kidneys.  She pees alot and drinks alot and has terrible breath.  The vet suggested a few IV treatment to flush her out, but if her kidneys are bad it will just happen again.  I have done alot of research and I believe a herbal remedy is the best solution and with a diet of organic meats, vegies, beans, and seeds I am confident that my little Tinka will get better.  It will be something that we will have to do the rest of her life but I believe that it will help her to be normal again.  I googled it any found a web site that you may want to check out.  I will get back to you with the name.

Good Luck

Tina

I'm so glad to hear your dog was diagnosed early.  The trick with kidney disease/ failure is to maintain what function there is for as long as possible.  Early diagnosis can mean your dog living a normal life span unless there is another issue like cancer that is causing the kidney problems.  My dog was diagnosed too late to make much difference, but she was over 13 by that point.

The link below turned out to be my Kidney Failure Bible.  If you print out all the information it's about 45-50 pages.  Take the time to both print and read it.  Honestly, it was more helpful than what I learned from my vet.  If I can help with any other specific questions, just post back.  Best to you both.  :-)
