cushing syndrome

hi i have a lovely little 14 years old next mth aspo name jasper . he has been on vetroyl for couple months now .he started on 10 mg then had blood test after 10 days , his liver and kidney funtion were clear , he has small seizure on this dose then they highered it up to 30 mg then went back for antother blood test , but said still to high , all blood on liver and kidney were fine, he had another test done the dose was raised to 40mg, he seem fine other that a bad infection from the eye and nose so was really stress him out cus couldnt breath proper , he been on norvac antibiotics over this treatment time he been on a differnt one before that for his water infection and skin which i originaly went with at the begining , the they up his dose to 50mg said come back in 20 days he had 3 seizure on this dose plus also change the antibiotics he only had there for 2 days he was very poorly the 2 days but the bad bout of sneezing stopped and had bad seizure on the second day of being on antibiotics. so i rang the told them . he was already booked in for the thur to have a test done with having sezures, the first 2 were mini ones, he now had the blood test done that work out at 16 days and not 20 iv now been told he got something wrong with his liver and kidneys and need to do a scan and another type of blood test were they feed the with some special food the take a test, the also stated when they rang the lab over what it meant about the liver and kidney they were told to stop the medication as the vetroyl break down something in the liver but if the dog already had a dodgy liver that this can happen. but im not convinced as it states on the leaflet with these tab that there are rare mild reverse reactions to there drugs and one the symtoms were seizure ,and also the antibiotics he was on also had that reaction , so i told the vet this when i rang them, so not sure no what will happen with stopping the medication as he been fine for about a week only for arithritist in his right leg , so god know what comming next or what the will do regarding this issue in hope it not bad news as he is so special to us and his friend my other lhasa apso who nearly 4 . we already lose an aspso age 17 nearly 3 years ago he was loverly to, im been so pround my little dogs there are world just like children there no differnt , you give you pets the love they need and they will alway repay you with that love back and they dooooo god love them .

has anyone experience these symptons thank jay

I definately think you are doing the right thing by going to a specialist to see what he can do.  You will never regret trying everything possible that you can for Jasper.  I hope the new doctor can give you some answers, let us know what he says because I'm sure the information will help someone that may read it.

hi that you for your reply , i went back to my vets and she say his there something wronge with his liver and kidney even though he seem 100 times better in himself , she said because he got this wronge with him aswell as the cushions desease said it out of her control and not sure how to treat him and what with , so we now decided to have him refered to a specialist in the field to see what he or she can come up with ,or i can start him on a low dose of vetroyl but that could turn nasty and reverse to addison desease, so were going to see specialist at least this way we can see what can be done for him, but there one thing i find strange how well he seem now and also his coat was really smelling bad but that smell is also going very strange we canrt understand it .

Our dog was on Vetroyl, also, but she didn't have any seizures, so l can't give you any good advice, but I will say Jasper is a very lucky dog to have an owner that is trying so hard for him.  I truly hope you and your vet can come up with the right meds and dosages so he can improve.  Good Luck.
