Dog not eating due to liver problem

My dog is 13 years old Shih Tzu, he hasn't been eating much the last 2 weeks and has lost weight from 19lbs to 16lbs. His blood test result has ALT 741U/L and ALKP 7042U/L, ALKP is extremely hight that my vet had to dilute to get the result.

I have given his Milk Thistle supplement but it will take some time for his system to take it in.

Are there any other supplements or food I can give to him so he can get daily essential nutrient? should I force feeding him some food through his throat? I have tried all sorts of home made and store food, but he doesn't have any interest. I am so worried that if he continues not eating, he won't have the energy to recover.

Look forward to any recommendations.

Thank you so much!
Rosie"

Rosie, you need to speak to the vet. It may be possible to give your dog an anti-nausea drug which may kick-start his interest in some light food.

The Milk Thistle is a great idea. That is a good herb for the liver. But as you say, while it takes time to work, your dog can't starve.

Also consider some home cooked food for him, but you will need vet's advice about what foods are to be avoided. Or research online about "liver friendly" diets for dogs.
No doubt he has no appetite and presenting him with something like prescription diet dry kibble....well his tummy is probably not in the mood for it.
