Hello Minnie,
I agree that nuts are not good for your dog. I also feel I need to make you aware of another problem that could be occurring. The leaking of stool could actually indicate a blockage higher up in the intestines than the enema was able to reach. If there is an impaction-(large amount of stool stuck in a confined section of the intestines) or a blockage of the intestines themselves, you may see seeping of liquid stool, instead of an actual formed bowel movement.
It appears as diarrhea that is constantly seeping, but the real problem is still up high in the intestines and has gotten stuck there. She probably needs to see the Vet again soon if she hasn't had an actual bowel movement because this can be painful and dangerous if left untreated.
I Hope This Helps Hun! Good Luck To You and Your Furry Friend. Keep Us Posted Please. God Bless Brenda
Yes, nuts are bad news for dogs really. I don't know if almonds are actually toxic as such, but the thing is dogs haven't the kind of teeth to grind up nuts properly, so they nearly always suffer constipation as a result. The same happened with my last dog, someone fed him peanuts at a party. By the time I stopped them doing it, he'd already eaten too many, and he was terribly constipated afterwards.
It sounds like your girl has a badly upset tummy. It wouldn't do her any harm to fast for 24 hours with just water, or if her energy is very low with no food, you could either put a little powdered glucose in with her water(used to be available from pharmacies, but not sure now) -or a little good quality honey or maple syrup. This is just emergency energy-boost stuff really. Obviously dogs shouldn't normally eat sugary things,
Canned pumpkin will help I am sure. You could give her some of that when she starts to perk up a bit and feels a little more like eating.
Keep her nice and clean, make sure she is wiped behind, and use either plain warm water, or a little dog shampoo if she is very messy, but rinse off well, in case she licks afterwards.
Hopefully she will be fine in a day or two. If not -get her checked out with the vet.
My dog had an enema today from the vet. Due to being constipated and vomiting. She is no longer vomiting but is leaking stool and doesn't have any energy . she is 12 years old and did eat a few almonds. any suggestions??? Thought by this eve. she would feel a little more like herself.
She should go to the vet immediately. Blood from the anus is never normal, regardless if she was given an enema or not.
Let us know what happens.
Please take your dog to the vet. I'm an advocate of alternative treatments, but I wouldn't advise this in the future. The fact that your dog is bleeding and you don't know what to do tells me that you are not skilled enough to manage the minor or more serious complications that could come of this.
