Update on Jake

No stones on xray, although the vet said there was so much stool it was hard to see much.  Well, that aggravated me.  I paid that much money, and they STILL aren't certain???  He said he's "pretty sure" Jake doesn't have stones.

His ph was reportedly 8.5, and there were still lots of crystals.  I absolutely don't understand that.  I check his pee at work 3 times a week, and its alway 6-6.5, which is what they are shooting for.  Why, at the vets office, is it always so high??  They send the urine out, so I'm wondering if it has to do with not being fresh, if it takes time to get to the lab and such?
After the vet called yesterday and told me his ph was 8.5, I collected a sample and tested it...6.5!!!  Why is there such a discrepnancy?  Vet has no answer...just said "Well, I'll fax you what the report said".  I'm not arguing about that...I want to know WHY there is such a difference.  Our machine where I test at work is calibrated and used on humans, but I'm sure the veterinary lab machine is, too.

Ideas?  He is strictly fed the acidifying food, not a single thing else.

Very strange that the labs have such different numbers.   I would think it would have to do with not being fresh.
When our dog had this problem nothing showed up on xray but when they did emergency surgery he was full of stones.   Wish I could offer some help but I can't.    What is the vet suggesting you do?

There is no suggestion beyond "watching things".

I'm now thinking that the whole thing is a mistake!  I'm considering taking him off the special food and putting him back on his normal food, to see what his urine ph is when I check it at work.

I really think that a delay in doing the full UA (since its a send out test) at the vets is leading to a false urine Ph of 8.5.

In that case, the first UA that started this whole thing, could have been wrong, too.
