How does Trimeprazine Help?

My dog has chronic anal gland congestion. She has been given trimeprazine and Prenisolone for this condition.

Does anyone else use this for their dog? Are you aware of what the Trimeprazine is for? Does is seem to decrease the dog's pain? The Prednisolone is given in combination with the Trimeprazine to decrease the inflamed glands.

Any ideas?  Well in the meantime I will take her back to the Vets as she is acting unusual again after having glands
expressed. Thanks for your interest and I hope someone answers me soon. What has been you experience with dog pain associated with this condition? Thanks

Thank you for your replies to my Post. Just updating you all on GiGi's condition.  Our terrier is having much less obvious discomfort. Still has a
remaining tail bit of pain due to irritated anal glands. Poor thing just stares
into space, though for less time, after her productive PM walk. Thanks to you all for replies on my original Post. Temaril-P works slowly but surely. Seems like a chronic anal problem for our pet. But things are better now!

Well there are 2 happier dogs out there due to this Temaril-P. The first time she had the very uncomfortable problem we were at a loss. GiGi acted very strangely. She was quite smart about running to sit on the cold tile floor. She got her own relief before we saw the Vet. This time we started her on the medication over the weekend and visited the Vet to find out that
there was minimal concern about build up of anal fluids.

Thank you for your reassurance which is what we needed as we saw that
condition coming back!

Yup ! it totally works fine and its originally called as "Temaril-P" which you can even find in general medical stores.. So there is a dog called Boxer (its his name not the breed) which has got same kind of issue and it worked totally fine with him !

Trimeprazine is an anti-histamine and will relieve uncomfortable itching.

I'm sorry because my dog never once had anal gland problems, and so I have absolutely no experience with this. I hope someone else can answer you who may be able to give you more help
