Slow Death

My little man 5lb bichon got his shots about 4 weeks ago, shortly after he was lethargic, very weak, no appetite & hurts when I pick him up. He has started to eat very little, but only if I take it to him. I took him to 3 different vets & told them I thought he was having an alergic reaction to his shots & all 3 vets told me that was not possible. He is now down to about 3 pounds & seems to be dying a slow death. I dont have the money to take him to another vet. Can someone PLEASE tell me what to do. Is there anything I can do at home. GOD BLESS

I hope you have some good news to share.

Dogs are amazing in dealing with pain, I'm not saying your dog has pain but I think they can tolerate pain a lot better than most humans.. especially big babies like me.

Sending a pray for a rapid recovery.

Hi, thank you for your reply, the vomiting & diarrhea have stopped.  I'm giving him chicken broth & pedilyte, I think that is whats keeping him alive. I massage his little bones about 3 times a day, thats about all that is left are bones with skin. I will do what ever it takes that can be done at home. I just pray he is not in pain.

He is approx 5 yrs old. It was Vanguard who gave the shots. (a tent outside a grocery store). I found out the manaufacturer in Merial. When he got sick a couple days after the shots I took him to the Banfield clinic in Ft Worth, then Banfield in Houston Tx.  Thank you for the reply & interest. Have a blessed Day!

I think the vet who gave your dog the shots has a vested interest in getting your dog back to good health.

I do recall our vet telling us shots have risks, usually very low risks... but risks none-the-less.  I don't understand how the vets you took your dog to discounted a reaction to the shots.

If you can keep him eating and more important drinking water I think you have hope it will pass.

I am not suggesting doing nothing, Margot49, made a number of helpful ideas and they are all good.

Is he vomiting or have diarrhea?  In the absence of these problems I'd hold out good hope for a recovery.

Let us know what happens, please, share good news too and we will celebrate with you.

All dog owners wish your dog a recovery, he is in our prayers.

I am so sorry to read this.  How old is your pup and what vaccines were given?
Did any of these Vets run blood work?
Will any of them take payments? Have you checked with the Vet that gave the vaccines?  I would think he would do follow up.
There is just no way to tell what is going on without testing.  Perhaps the immune system has been compromised.
I suppose you don't know the manufacturer of the vaccine?  You might want to try and contact them.
Have you tried cooking up some food like chicken and rice to see if he will eat?  You can pick up some nutritional supplements at the pet store.

Perhaps someone else here has some ideas but I really think testing needs to be done if it has not.
