My female Japanese Chin 5, has 8 bladder stones and my vet gave her medicine to make her pass them. She has passed them but still has trouble urinating and sometimes it's all blood, he doesn't seem too concerned, should I be?
We had a lot of trouble with bladder stones with our Hannah (a Cairn terrier), including an instances of acute retention which could have killed her, but a change of diet to a bland and natural one seem to solve the problem on a life long basis. Most vets seem to favour a change of diet.
For a description of Hannah's problems and details of her case history please see -
I think you need to change vets. Many dogs must have surgery for bladder stones. It sounds like passing them has shredded your poor dog's urethra and possibly other structures. Since your dog is urinating blood, something is VERY WRONG and she needs medical help NOW. Don't wait until after the weekend. Find an ER vet and go.
