Parvo in Puppies

My puppy has Parvo. We took him to the vet today and they gave him antibiotics and fluids, but he is not doing better at all. Has anyone had experience with this virus? If so, how long is the recovery and what signs should I look for that the meds aren't working? He is very lethargic and completely unresponsive. He will not eat or drink and has severe diarrhea. Please help as I am very worried about him and our vet clinic is not open for the next 48 hours.

All you can do sweetie, is hope and pray, and put your trust in the veterinary care he is receiving. I am sure they are doing their best for him. When you say "confined" -do you mean the vet has kept him in? If so, I am sure he will be monitored properly, and given the care he needs.
I do hope he will be OK. I have already said a little prayer for him. God bless.

Did the vet send this puppy home?  If this baby is this sick, he needs to be at the vet's in isolation and given supportive care.

One of the biggest dangers of parvo is dehydration because of the vomiting and diarrhea.  If the puppy becomes dehydrated, the body's electrolytes are thrown off and all kinds of problems, not the least of which is a disruption of the heart rhythm, can occur.

If the puppy is at home, give him Pedialyte.  If he will not drink it himself, force it in with an eyedropper or a syringe.  You can also boil a cup of water, and while it is boiling hot, stir in a cup of sugar until completely dissolved.  The sugar water mixture will give him a boost.  You also need to pick up a tube of NutriCal from your vet and give the puppy doses of NutriCal (which is a very high calorie supplement) to help maintain his weight and strength during treatment.

As I said, though, if this puppy is at home, he needs to be in the ICU at the vet's with an IV hookup to make sure dehydration does not occur.
