My 8 year old brindle had the surgery 3 weeks ago and is doing fine but she has every now and then stringy cloddy discharge that comes out just started this week when she came home she had none the vet said that's normal for a week or 2
Sorry, me and this iPad. 72 hours.
You are adding to an old topic, always better to start a new one.
At least she is eating some and best to give her smaller meals. Good she is drinking water. May take her 48-62 hours to start to rebound.
Yesterday, my beagle had surgery for pyometra and she is still lethargic which I understand because it was major surgery. Now my concern is her eating. For some reason and this happened before the diagnosis that she ate dry food. Today I gave her increments of wet good and she ate about a can of dog food but her enthusiasm to eat is not right there. She is on antibiotics and pain killers. Did you see that with your dog? I am happy she eats in increments and drinks water. If you can write back I will be gratedful
You mean the third eyelid is up/showing? Did they send her home on meds? She is probably just still suffering the effects of surgery and anesthesia and any pain meds they have given her. That eyelid should go down once she is feeling better and is more alert. That stuff can stay in the system for days. Just watch her for any sign of stress, fever or refusing fluids.
I'm not really sure what the "third eye" thing is...?
My dog had surgery for Pyometra last October, and she was still quite lethargic 2 1/2 days after her surgery. The first day she laid on her bed most of the day with poop and pee breaks. She found it hard to poop the first day, but did a little. She ate just fine. Her temperature was still slightly up on the second day so I called the vet who said it was quite normal, but to bring her in if her temperature went up higher that 102.5. The second day, she was interested in going out more, but was walking very very slowly, and resting a lot. She was drinking and eating normally. I knew she needed to rest up and sleep a lot too. The third day her temperature went down to 101.5 and after that her energy started coming back slowly. It took about 5-6 days for her to start showing she was really healing, but for about a week part of her scar looked a little reddened. The vet also said this wasn't anything to really worry about, but to keep an eye on that and bring her in if it didn't go away soon (it did heal just fine by the way)
She was back to her normal self maybe about 7-8 days after the surgery, wanting to go for her usual walks, and play frisbee. The vet said normal exercise was fine.Though I took it easy with her -let her instinct call the shots. As soon as I saw any signs she might be a little tired, I'd bring her back home.
So I'm telling you all that because that's how the natural healing process went for her, and it might give you some guidelines.
But the best thing is always to refer back to the vet who did the surgery during the healing process, if you have any worries or questions. They don't mind. It really is a normal part of their duty of care. If there is anything that is worrying you -don't hesitate -call the vet for advice straight away.
