I hope your little pup is alright. If she gets emergency care quickly she might be.
Whatever happens, don't blame your young son. He is too young to realize what he did could hurt the pup. At that age they have no idea of the consequences of their actions or when they are going too far in play with a small animal.
When I was a tiny toddler, we had a number of cats and kittens about the place. All went well, mostly. But apparently one day while I was playing with the cat, I hit her with a cushion. Now I have no memory of that, and according to my mother, the cat was fine, but it goes to show that even a young child who is used to having small animals about, and isn't a cruel child, can have incidents like these, because they have not yet learned cause and effect.

I know when you have a very small dog like you have or a yorkie, they have very small bones and small children can hurt them not knowing any better.
If you read most dog sites the recommend not having this dog around small
children, because of the injuries that can happen to the dog. I think if you
keep a good eye on your pet and your children, you all will survive the
terrible 2's! The little puppy being so small and young, you will have to
watch out for her, since I know you are attached to her, you are going to
have to be her first line of defense. Maybe separating the child from the
dog by a temporary indoor round fence would help. Caging the dog and
letting it out at naptime for your baby too. There are work arounds with
children and it will not be easy, but if you want a happy dog and child
you need to be alert and make precautions. I'm sure your Vet can give
you good advice with your little dog too.
Take care,

Mark

I'm glad Ruby seems OK. But like Karla said, she might possibly still need to see a vet. Sometimes there can be injuries that we can't see but can cause problems later on.

I'm glad she's better...I worried about her.....If you didn't go to a Emergency center, you still need to have her checked out by your regular Vet, just to be on the safe side.....Keep us updated on her & Happy Holidays......Karla

Thank you all for writing to me on what to do.
Ruby is back to her normal self she was just in alot of shock. As for my 2yr old he'll have to learn to be gental to ruby.I have to other kids that love her and are good to her so she's not going any where.I would'nt keep her if we could'nt look after her but we do and she is loved by us all.

All the hard stuff the little man can pick up and throw and hit her with will be put away and he is watched more now when she out playing.

Your puppy needs to be seen by an emergency vet TONIGHT.  A nine week old small breed puppy has absolutely no defenses against something like this and from your description of her behavior afterward, she could have sustained serious injuries.  Normally, if a puppy gets a minor injury, say, if they get their paw stepped on, they will yipe and act like it's the end of the world for a minute or two but then they'll be right back to running around playing.  The fact that you said she screamed for a while and then vomited for 3 hours tells me that she could have internal injuries.  Please don't wait, get her to a vet NOW!

I am not trying to be insulting here, I am merely stating a fact.  Toddlers and pets do NOT mix.  There is too great of a chance for the child to harm a young animal and too great of a chance for the toddler to cause an older animal enough pain to have them bite.  Many breeders will not even sell a puppy to someone with a very young child or children for this very reason.  Since your child is not old enough to reason with or to understand that animals are not to be hit with things it's really not safe to keep her.  You cannot possibly watch the two of them every minute of the day and things like this can happen in the blink of an eye.  Please reconsider keeping her once she is recovered.  She would be much better off in a home without young children.
