Karla gave you good advice. Myself and my aunt had Doxies for years. One of my aunt's dogs progressed into hind end paralysis. Absolutely true to keep them from jumping. My dogs were fine but her's was from a different breeding so could have been predisposed to this weakness.
I suggest you have the Vet check your dog.
You can also try hydrotherapy which is good fir the back and helps to strengthen muscles. If you have a bath tub, that is perfect as they have short legs.
Put enough tepid water in the tub so they can't stand. Support their middle with your hand or a sling and let them paddle for about 10-15 mins. Good if you can do this daily.
Both of you also need to include Pet stairs on ALL beds, & sofas to eliminate ALL jumping off and on furniture.....While your away from home, you need to crate your dog to avoid any injuries! Prevention now, is much easier than the fix, if they become paralyzed!!! Karla
Welcome to the forum....Google IVDD (Intervertabral disc/disk disease) & start taking precautions...... Dachshunds are the #1 breed w/this disorder.....What your describing fits the beginning signs! Using a GOOD joint supplement (Starting now) is the place to start! Karla
I have a dachshund mix that does the same exact thing. My dog has always been sensitive if I try to pick her up by the rib cage, so I learn not to hold him that way.
