hi
thanks for the rapid reply..she has been at the vets for the last four days..we took her in after a very bad bout of vomiting etc..they had her on a drip for two days whilst they tried to find out...she was xrayed and it showed no obstuction and then this morning the vet said he would have to operate to see if it was blocked..he said he has removed a large portion of her bowel and as she is now skin and bones and still passing blood he is not even sure she will survive...so I suppose I looking on the bright side really
Hi tina, and welcome to the community. :-) My goodness! What in the world happened that such a young pup needed bowel resection surgery? Was it an accidental injury, or a disease that made it necessary? The reason I ask is that knowing the underlying cause of the injury will help everyone here give you a better opinion.
About a year ago, our dog Maggie (who was 4 at the time) had a horrific accident requiring resection. The first few days here prognosis was pretty poor, but she rallied and has been fine ever since. The important thing to remember is that intestines just don't like being messed with in any way. This is true of humans and animals. After resection surgery, it can take a fair amount of time for the intestines to get back to their normal function. The muscular action that moves waste through the body takes a while to get working and coordinated again. As long as any possible infection is treated and under control, there is no reason your pup can't live a normal life after recovery.
When was the surgery, and what does your vet have to say about the situation?
