One of my dogs goes crazy for cat poo. One reason is that cat food is higher in protein than dog food, so a lot of that protein goes right through the cat, into his poo, and into the dog. All you can do is be diligent about cleaning up after your cat, and if possible, use a baby gate to keep the dog out of the litter box area. Most cats can and will jump over the gate to get to the box.
A "treat" of poo won't hurt your dog once in a while, but it's certainly not good for it to become a daily routine. Sometimes changing the cat's food can help. Give your vet a ring to see what additives are safe for your cat that might deter your dog from his dining habits. Good luck! :-)
It is a bit disgusting isn't it? Oh well. George goes for the tid bits rather than the litter and even can find it out in the yard mixed in with dirt. Guess his nose is paying off with him being a doxie! My first thought was a protein issue (fish thing) so I got chicken strips. Now we have a poopy chicken breath dog! Still love the old boy and I just turn my head when he gets too close. I don't think I would be too keen on that tabasco idea since they do claw at the litter and then clean their paws. All I need is a cat on fire around here to make my day!!! Thanks and have a sweet day.......:)
Is it the kitty litter?
As much as it repels us- since there is protein in the cat poop- to dogs it is the ultimate
"crunchy munchy"/ been there- we had kitty litter out where our dog Lady could get to it in the house.... move the litter where it is not so easy for doggie to get to also makes it harder for kitty to get to but at least an out of the way place where doggie find it "more out of her way" to get to it- (not right out in the open) you see?
It really is hard because that is always a place WE can't keep an eye on- want to enjoy both your animals right?--- there are a few tricks putting something that repels the dog's scent like Tabasco- but I don't want my kitty sitting down on tabasco sauce- ickkk-
