Alternative to a "lampshade" collar??

Does anyone know where I can get an alternative to an Elizabethan ("lampshade") collar? Something that would stop a dog being able to bend around to lick or bite a wound, but is comfortable enough to be kept on for any length of time?
My dog has to have surgery on her belly area in a couple of weeks time, and the scar will need protecting of course, but the last time she wore a Elizabethan collar, it was awful for her. She kept bumping into things, couldn't eat -no matter where I placed her food dish, and refused to lie down at all.
I seem to recall there is another type of collar which would do the trick, but can't remember what it's called, and no "googling" I'm doing is finding me what I need.
Can anyone help?

I looked on ebay, but all the little all in one suits are way too small for her. Even kiddie t shirts are.  I found an old one of mine. It says "ANGEL" on it! haha! Now the next challenge is finding some wipe-clean, lightweight waterproof material to sew on the t shirt in the belly area.
After her surgery she won't be racing about playing frisbee, but she will need to go outside. And where I live the ground and grass is almost always wet, and will splash her belly with mud. Hardly a hygienic idea straight after surgery!

Oh good....!
I can hardly wait to see this get-up...!
I love to improvise and in the past have created several of my own "Frankenversions"  of  things I  thought would come in handy.
My Family and I have really gotten some good laughs at some of the things I have come up with.
I'm sure you will have fun with this project.
You will also have to Name your creation......
I will be looking forward to the pictures...( modeled by your dog )... along with the items name...!
Have fun with the project, and I hope the surgery will go well for your dog.

HAHA! Yep, I'll have to post her pic!
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see if I can find a kiddie all-in-one suit thing for her. That would be ideal.

Good plan Ginger!  Something else along your same idea would be:

Children's ONE PIECE pajamas & cut most of the legs off OR a child's Onesie....Course, you'll have to cut a hole for the tail!  ;)

Good luck, we're gonna need some pictures of this you know!!!!!!  Karla

Really good options for e collars here.
But I looked at every one of them, and knowing my dog I don't think she will be comfortable in any of them.
So I have an idea, I'll make her a lightweight cotton t shirt, not too tight so  that air can get to her wound so it will heal properly, but with soft straps to hold it in place round her back legs so it won't ride up. I think she will be totally happy with that. And it will also help to keep her warm as it's cold here

Oh wow! Thank you so much both of you! I couldn't come up with a name for the other collars. Now I have, I can maybe find a site I can buy one over here.

Try to google these names:

Trimline Collars
EZ Soft Collars

Both of these are soft cones that are much easier to use than a traditional hard one......Karla
