pedi paws

Has anyone bought the pedi paws nail clippers shown on tv for your dogs? Is it safe? Can anyone use them? I would never clip my dogs claws myself for fear of hurting him or doing any kind of damage. But this product claims you can't harm the dog and a novice can use it. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks, Jan

My dogs won't allow me to use it on them- I think you'd have to start this at a very young age, unless your dog has a super mellow personality.  I think the best bet is to handle your dogs feet a lot when they're really little, so they're used to having their feet handled. Then start out slowly, (maybe just clip one nail a day) with a regular hand clipper - with lots of praise and treats on hand.  And do this on a regular basis so that it becomes no big deal to them- routine- and maybe brush your dog at the same sitting, so it becomes a pampered attention type thing that they like.  I really think starting young is important- especially with high strung breeds.  It's a nightmare to do once the dog is grown and strong-willed.  My Chesapeake didn't need her nails clipped as a young dog because she was so active.  Now that she's older, her nails don't wear down on their own, and without being clipped, they get too long and split- very painful.  I wish I had thought about this when she was a pup, because its always a struggle, now.  My other dog is super mellow, so not a problem.

I have the PediCure which is the same thing. I find it takes alot longer to use this than the nail clipper. It is not powerful enough, so it takes forever.  Mine does plug in & still no luck with it. I have a Mini Poodle & she is all Black. It is hard to see her quick but I manage fine with the clippers. She hates it as all dogs do, but use it I must.
Good luck.

I looked it up a while ago and found a lot of negative reviews. I guess it doesn't have much power and tends to grind to a halt when used on hard claws. I remember someone suggesting buying a corded one instead (available at pet stores).
