My Boxer has been diagnosed with Cushing's disease and has been on Trilostane for about 3 weeks. The vet has done one urine cortisol test which showed increased levels of cortisol but there was a tiny increase in urine concentration though still dilute. There was a tooth root abscess that was also being treated at the time of the test so the vet wants to do the test in a couple more weeks since the infection could cause the increase in urine cortisol. My questions are: how long does it take to see improvement with Trilostane and could the antibiotic for the tooth interfere with the effects of Trilostane? Also, should I have an ACTH stimulation test as well? I ask because after about a week on the Trilostane I noticed a marked improvement in the excessive drinking and a tiny increase in energy level. The vet told me that the excessive urine production would take longer to diminish and I hadn't really noticed a big change with that. The tooth flared up after the first week of the Trilostane and almost immediately after starting the antibiotic the drinking started again and he developed these hard bumps on his skin which the vet suspects is due to the Cushing's. The tooth cleared up (though I know the tooth will have to be removed) and it has only been 5 days since we finished the antibiotic and I haven't noticed any improvement in the water drinking. I was just wondering if the decreased drinking before was just a coincidence. He's on 60mg twice a day
