seizure, distemper or rabies? Help!

We have a 4 month old akc lab pup.  For the past week,  he has been scratching like crazy and we thought maybe he picked up fleas from a relatives house we had visited.  We bathed him, and put hartz flea & tick medicine (in tube) on his back about three days ago.  Last night he suddenly fell to the floor and had what we thought was a seizure.  I called a friend whom is a vet and we thought that the visit could wait until today.  He had foamed at the mouth, convulsed, and then was fine as quickly as it had started.  About an hour later, we fed him dinner and when eating he began foaming at the mouth excessively and then began running through the house like crazy as fast as he could.  Again, all of a sudden he was fine.  Then about 12:30 this morning he needed to go out to potty and then when we came back in he had the "seizure" (for lack of a better word), foamed at the mouth,  and then began running again.  He runs for about four minutes and you cant catch him or get him to slow down.  This morning my husband went to check on him and before he could even get to him he began growling and barking feircely and acted like he wanted to attack him.  There was no foaming or seizures at that time.  I am waiting for the vet to open but am scared to try to put him in the vehicle with me for fear of attack or possibility of rabies or distemper.  Does anyone have any info to share where they have witnessed something like this?  by the way --the foam from his mouth has and unknown but strong "odor" to it.  We love our pup and I have been crying all night searching for an answer.

Holy cr*p Batman!  You're right again Karla!  I kept thinking those symptoms sounded familiar but couldn't nail it down.  A gazillion years ago my mom's long-haired cat had a terrible case of fleas, so she used both a flea bath and a flea collar.  OMG - the same symptoms as this poor dog, and she almost died.

I hope this dog is at the vet right now!

Me again...This is an EMERGENCY....Your vet may not believe this.....DEMAND fluid therapy before the poison reaches his Kidneys.....When you have a chance: Call your friend the Vet and eat his A$$ out for making you waste valuable time!!!! I sure hope everything turns out...Again, let us know.....Karla

He IS having seizures!  Call your vet to see if you can sedate your dog a bit before trying to get him in the car.  He MUST be seen.  Do you have a crate you can lure him into for transportation?  Also, if you have a digital camera that can take videos, see if you can get a video of his behavior - even a  fast series still photos will help your vet.

I seriously doubt this is rabies or distemper, but rather seizures.  Lord only knows what caused them to show up so fast, but it happens.
