Hello Unis18,

I just read your post, and I would be happy to help.  Can you give me some information.  Is this for yourself, a family member or friend?  Not that it makes any difference in the information that I will find for you, but it is helpful for me to know.

It is never to late for anyone to get the appropriate direction to learn or to achieve things that are helpful.  Adults are very capable of learning, and adults with Down syndrome are no different.  What is important to note is that all adults learn differently then children do simply because our brains are different.  Adults need a different type of learning environment, and also a different approach.  I think depending on the cognitive level, the type of resources need to be specific.

May I ask, what goals are you looking to achieve?  What type of information regarding learning are you looking for?  More specifically I am wondering, is it scholastic learning you would like information on, is it daily functioning and perhaps learning life skills?  Or is it another area you wish to explore?

While you get back to me, I will look into some general sources for leaning in your area.
Feel free to send me a direct message with the details if you prefer.
Lastly, one avenue which might additionally be able to provide you with some help in this area would be your family physician.  They should have a lot of contact ideas for your area.  They should have listings for local developmental specialists.  Another avenue to find specific Down syndrome information with respect to learning would be the local Down syndrome association in your state.  But, I will research these for you.

Here is a terrific site that has all the associations in it, and very specific information for learning.  This is an extremely concise site, which lists everything Down syndrome, and even lists my blog in it!

Here is another link for adulthood:  http://www.ndss.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=50&Itemid=141

And I have located your local Down syndrome site for Maryland USA:  http://www.downsyndromeconnection.com/

In addition to anything I have mentioned, please keep in mind, that while I or others may have extensive knowledge in many areas, you should always seek professional medical advice from your own physician, as it pertains to medical conditions or concerns.

Good luck, and if you have any other questions that I can help you with, please feel free to message me directly.

Sincerely,
Sandi (Dragon1973)
