As lame of a fix as this might sound, it actually helped me. A couple months ago i pulled a muscle in my neck when i lifted something a completely wrong way. This "clicking" started happening whenever i swallowed with the exact same symptoms as you guys. But my first thought was maybe it was something to do with my actual neck. So i went to a chiropractor and my neck was actually out. Not enough for a real noticeable difference in how i looked but it was enough. And after she popped it in about a day or so later the clicking completely stopped! I suffered from it for 2 weeks and a simple visit there fixed it. That might be why the doctors couldn't find anything wrong. This might not be a solution for all of you. But i'd urge you to at least try it if nothing else is working. I hope it helps some of you.
WOW...i found this thread. I have had this for almost a year now and I am scheduled to see a specialist in the next 3 weeks!!!! It is very frustrating not knowing what it is.....I keep thinking it might be cancer and that is what originally got my *** to see a doctor in the first place. I have not been sick, or tired, at all and I have not had a cold in 6 years......but this dam click is in my throat and I am really concerned!!!!
I too am so relieved that many of you are experiencing the same symptoms as I am.
I've been in extremely good shape my entire life. I'm a 31 years old male that have been involved in martial artists for the past decade. I've been in 3 severe car accidents that nearly took my life within the past 15 years. After the last car accident that happened approximately 2 years ago my health really started to decline. I was diagnosed with a fourth concussion, and developed Limpomas (small fatty non-cancerous tumors) all over my body.
Approximately, 8 months later I had a flood in my house that forced my family to live in a small mice infested apartment for nearly 2 months. During my stay at the apartment (I was under a lot of stress), I started experiencing extreme heart burn that lasted for weeks. I than started having black stools caused by blood from the upper GI track. I went to my doctor to tell him about it and he said that I better rush to the hospital because I most likely have an ulcer. Well long story short, they diagnosed me with Ulcers and put me on Tecta. This was the worst mistake ever!! My bleeding went away, but I started getting weird GERD like symptoms burning my throat so I went back to the doctor and he put me on a few other GERD medications. I was just so relieved about not having blood in my stool anymore that I forgot to mention to him that I am now having issues swallowing.
Over the next few months I went back to the doctor a few times for checkups and he felt that I should go to GI specialist to verify that the Ulcers have healed.
A month later I went in to see the specialist and he immediately scheduled me for an upper GI scope to see if I still have Ulcers (which they never proved that was what I indeed had). A few weeks later I had an upper GI scope performed (last Dec), and nearly choked to death on the operating table. The doctor sent me on my way and said everything looked good. A few days later, I noticed swelling in my throat and clicking when I swallowed on a dry throat. Again, I was so happy that the doctor said that everything is good that I never went back to the doctor to tell him about my throat. To make matters worse, approximately 1 month after I had the upper GI scope done I noticed that my belly button has popped out some and is sore at times.
It's been almost a year since I had the scoped performed and I have Heartburn every day (even with taking GERD medications, and extra strength TUMS), issues with my throat (pain in right side, and problem swallowing), and now I have an umbilical Hernia. I'm not sure what to do next.
HELP!!
I had this clicking start two weeks after a car accident (minor), during which I sustained a whiplash injury, with a straightening of the cervical spine.
My symptoms: neck pain (of course), clicking when swallowing- mostly when lying down- not when eating or drinking, clicking when my larynx should be allowed to rise freely during certain vocal exercises and an occasional song, jaw pain, tension and swelling while chewing and occasionally while singing, mild ear pain, shoulders are also clicking while extending arms in certain directions.
My chiro thinks it's probably related to that straightening of the cervical spine, as that can put pressure on the throat. MRI did not show anything definitive. If the clicking doesn't resolve as my neck injury improves, he will send me to a specialist.
I am a voice teacher, music director, and a singer by trade. This is dramatically limiting my abilities as a singer. I've suspected the hyoid bone, relating it to vocal function, but that's just a guess.
I was thrilled to find this forum, as most people just think I'm nuts! Thank you all for sharing your stories.
Thank goodness that so many others know how I'm feeling. I have been calling this condition my "click throat" and have been suffering on and off with this for 6 years. Originally, I was so scared that I went to my family doctor, who diagnosed me with dysphagia, and sent me for a Barium swallow x-ray. This x-ray showed absolutely nothing, not even reflux.
What I can say, is that my stress level seems to directly affect my "click throat", so once the Barium swallow test showed I didn't have some type of lump in my throat, the click seemed to subside. Now 6 years later, I can say the click is still there - and worse when I continue to mull over it in my mind. I've also noticed a worsening affect during allergy season. I saw something on uTube that talks about something similar to this, and the "doctor" doing the video calls it "Globus hyperbolus" - I didn't spell correctly. Basically, like some of the others stated, when swallowing the throat muscles contract, sometimes leading to a clicking feeling or sound.
Thanks to everyone who made my "click throat" symtoms subside for today....
I too have GERD, as well as asthma....Mine clicks pretty often, especially when I turn my head to the left....did some research and I'm hoping more that it is this habit.....maybe it will help some of you too.....it's called Globus pharyngis
