About 6 weeks ago, I got a sore throat that escalated to bad ear/jaw pain to the right side of my face. It was the worst pain I have ever been in my life. I took tests for both strep throat and mono and they both came back negative. I was prescribed a Z-pack and I threw it up so I was prescribed me Amoxicillin (10 days; 875 mg tablet - 2 times a day) and the pain went away. Two days after I stopped the antibiotics the pain returned. I went back to the doctor they said it might be an abcess and if the pain got worse I would have to go the the ER to get it drained and they prescribed me amoxicillin (500 milligrams - 3 times a day). The pain went away but once again, two days later the pain came back and I was prescribed amoxicillin (1,000 milligrams 2 times a day). Now two days later and the pain is starting to come back. The told me on my last round that if the pain comes back again then I will need to see an ENT because I can’t keep taking antibiotics.
I will admit that I stupidly drank alcohol once during my first round and once during my second round but none during the third. I didn’t take meds those nights but I just took them the next morning.
The problem is, my primary care doctor (for which I need an appointment) is 45 minutes away and only open M-F 8-5, which means I can make an appointment tomorrow for next week and then schedule to see an ENT, which means that it won’t be a good while until I can actually get an appointment. I am worried that if I wait this long then the pain will escalate to where it was in the beginning.
Any idea what is going on or suggestions to manage the pain/what to do before I can see the ENT?
I am not currently on any medication (besides occasional aspirin/ibuprofen). I have had the occasional sore throat before but never this bad.
