Sudden painful nose bridge for no apparent reason

OMG - I woke up with it this morning, out of the clear blue sky just like the rest of you.  The bridge of my nose is painful if I pinch it even lightly and now I'm starting to feel headachy.  No real headache, only that just-before-the-headache feeling.

This is totally weird, and after reading in this thread what may ensure over the next few days or weeks, I'm not exactly thrilled.

There doesn't appear to be any answer from a moderator.  Did I miss that somewhere along the scroll?

I have symptoms described above, took two Motrin gel caps 200mg. and the pain subsided. I hope it goes away completely, otherwise it is a trip to the ENT specialist.
This is not a common condition.

On another note, I had rosacea on the sides of my nose and starting to spread downward. I read to change to a non-fluoride toothpaste as an option. It worked!

Getting older has its quirky moments.

I have had symptoms since feb its now july went to a dr because i was having a throbbing pain on the bridge of the right side of my nose. She said she had no idea put me on antibiotics which i had just got done taking a few weeks prior for a sinus infection. So ignored her because i didn't want another round of antibiotics. went back a few months later was having throbbing pain very sensitive to the touch she recommended a ENT. Waited a month for ENT appointment. He quickly looked me over I told him my symptom. He said he had no idea what would cause that and recommended a CAT scan. I was pissed he barely looked at me and to me didn't even try to hear my symptoms. I am scared of the health risks not to mention the cost of a CAT scan so ignored him and assumed maybe its an allergy thing. Pain comes and goes so whatever right? I recently had a breast infection with high fever and chills so was put on antibiotics. All better now and my nose is hurting again. It's making me crazy I'm not sure who to see everyone looks at me like I'm nuts when I tell them what I'm feeling.

I had same symptoms and it was STAPH INFECTION. Good idea to go to the doctor asap if redness or swelling at all.

I had similar symptoms to about what everyone here had. Woke up on a Tuesday around 4:00 am and my bridge of my nose was sort of sore, like I got bumped in the nose in my sleep. It was borderline like the feeling of a big pimple before it pops up. I had a mild, what I thought was a sinus headache.

I let it go for a day but knew something was wack. I made an appointment for the doctor on a wednesday pm. She examined me. BP was fine, temperature was fine, I felt pretty good, not like a flu or cold. I didn't have a bump or redness on my nose. A look up my nostrils, didn't show much. My sinuses were pretty clear (I'm always stuffed up (congested) to some degree.

Doctor diagnosed it as CELLULITUS which happened to be under the surface of my skin. She prescribed me Clindamycin 3x per day and Sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim) 2x per day.

I took both immediately and kept a log on my phone so i could get the 2x and 3x dosing kind on schedule. Otherwise my forgetful butt would screw it up.

At 36 hours into taking the meds I started to feel better to a degree and the left side of my nose quit hurting. Also the frontal headache (which wasn't like a splitting sinus headache, more like a pre-headache or something) quit.

3 days into the meds, my stomach started hurting from the meds but I pressed on. I also didn't take any pain meds because frankly I wanted to make sure this BS didn't spread to my eyes or something and me have the pain masked.

The next day (beginning of day 4) the left side of my nose hurt like a son of a gun and the right side had quit hurting. I read someone else had had this happen but I was still kind of disappointed and saddened and thought the crap was getting anti-biotic resistant (and all the other bad junk you read about online). Im sure I thought it was cancer a time or two.

So, on day 6 of meds I went in for a followup appointment just to make sure this Cellulitus was subsiding. By the time 3:00p rolled around I really felt a hell of a lot better. Head-achey garbage was really gone for the most part. Went in to doctor, she said my nose looked and felt a lot better than it did last week, less swollen and my face looked less flushed.

She did prescribe me a medicine to put on a q-tip and swab the inside of my nostrils 2x per day. It's another anti-bacterial drug. I hate putting the stuff up there but I want this thing out of my head so I'm willing to root up my nose with a q-tip. Big fun, not...

As I type this I'd guess I'm probably 80-85% better. No headache, very low pain when touching what was the most painful area just 2 days ago. I'm sticking with the meds to finish out the 10 days. I've also been taking a pro-biotic and eating an orange or orange juice for vitamin C. Don't know if either of those help but I thought i read that it did.

I assume that with the continuation of meds I should recover.

So, bottom line, don't assume its this or that, go check it out at the doctor. Bacterial infections are no joke. Also, don't get discouraged by slow progress or even what feels like a setback (apparently there's evidence that sometimes pain etc gets worse before it gets better due to bacteria dying or something). I'm no doctor, I've just read 4 pages of google results for "nasal cellulitus" and I am remembering bits.  I'm no doctor and this is my first ever medical post but I wanted to get it out there to hopefully help some people. Take your meds, get rest and getter done.

Stop eating pork. Relapsing Polychondritis

Not to scare anyone, but there's also a condition called nasal chondritis where the cartilage specifically is affected. I have a rare autoimmune disease called relapsing polychondritis, and this is one of the areas of the body that it can affect. I'm sure most of you don't have it as it's not very common, but for those that are experiencing pain/soreness in cartilaginous areas only, with accompanying redness and swelling, you should really run it by a doctor. A lot of doctors aren't familiar with the condition, but if you also have the cartilage in your ears being affected (I do) or have had frequent bouts of episcleritis (an eye infection that resolves with steroids), it's worth looking into. Also, if this inflammation resolves with steroids rather than antibiotics. You DO want to see a knowledgeable doctor because over time the cartilage can actually collapse and cause deformities and other problems, and the disease can affect other cartilage in the body (joints, trachea, heart valves, etc.).

I’ve been looking at some of these and wondering. Can you have nasal chondritis without it being relapsing Polychondritis?

Google "Ethmoid Sinusitis."  It's specific to the bridge of the nose.

I rubbed the bridge of my nose last night, and out of the blue, it felt like I had been punched smack in the middle of my nose. No redness or swelling presented, but the pain started to substantially increase and spread upwards toward my eyebrows. I kept heat on it for most of the night and woke up with it feeling the same. I went to my Dr. and I was diagnosed with cellulitis. I am just now (24 hours after initially feeling it) starting to see redness and swelling. The Dr. said we caught it very early and I was lucky to get it in the early stages, as cellulitis can get very nasty, very quickly. No clue as to how I got it, just very happy to have read all of the above posts causing me to act on it.

I think I have Nasal Celulitis again! The first time it was on the tip of my nose and hurt like heck. This time the bridge of my nose is swollen and painful to touch. I don't know the deal on why I keep getting it, but I think it might have to do with the nasonex I'm prescribed. I try really hard to alcohol wipe the bottle after each use, but I don't think that is effective enough. SMH this *****.

Wow!  Yesterday the bridge of my nose hurt as if I had been punched in the nose with glasses on.  No obvious bruising, no pimple, no discoloration, just slightly swollen and tender to the touch.  I guess I'll be going to a Doc-in-a-Box tomorrow armed with this thread.  I'm always surprised when, once again, I learn that I'm not all that unique.

Well, I have the same thing... I was on Bactrim and Clindamycin for 10 days... another 5 days of Bactrim... which didn't work by itself before.. .anyway... I have a hard ridge inside my nose that won't go away... and sometimes I think it is going to flare back up... not having insurance, it is not good that I might have to pay another 125.00 to see the same dr. for the same results.... it started as what I thought was a spot inside my nose that might be irritated to me looking like i had been in a fight...   any thoughts on why this keeps lingering?????   thanks...

Isn't the intranet a wonderful thing.  I was so SURPRISED to find so many people with the same problem- and grateful for it.  Tow days ago I was driving and happened to rub my nose.  I noticed that the left side of my nose as tender.  I immediately thought--I'm getting a pimple.  That's what it felt like.  The next day, there was no signs of a pimple.  But the tenderness was there but in a broader area.  And my nose began to hurt without touching it.  By that evening, the "hurt" became pain and it actually kept me awake.  I woke got up on day three and noticed minor swelling and the pain now extended to the bridge of my nose.  As the day progressed so did the pain - CONSTANT and worsening - and inflamation started.  Because the pain was so unusual, I had looked on the computer the previous evening to see what the hell it could be.  All I could come up with was a sinus infection or cellulitis.  I am a nurse so I'm very aware of the s/s of both.  Neither seemed to fit as I didn't have the sinus pain and congestion associated with sinus infection.  And I certainly didn't have the visible signs of cellulitis which I see nearly daily.  The pain became so bad that I actually went th Urgent Care (my primary couldn't see me).  The doctor diagnosed me with cellulitis.  Basically because she ruled out a sinus infection.  So, I was given a script for a broad spectum antibiotic and told to go to the ER immediately if it spreads as it can cause blindness if it affects the eyes or death if it affects the brain.  Just wanted to chime in incase anyone is having the same symptoms so you take it seriously.  If you are experiencing similar signs and symptoms, please, see a doctor.

Thanks to everyone posting...I came here looking for an answer to why my nose has been bothering me for the last 4 days or so, felt like I was punched in the nose...no bruise though...Not stuffy, or runny...minimal sneezing...def. felt achy the other day.  (Like I was fighting something).  It passed though...Can't touch my nose and it literally has a gotten bigger from the bridge to almost the tip...Geeze.   But no pimple or head to be seen, so believe it is this cellulitis.  I will be making an appt. to see the Dr.  The day after Christmas, if I can last that long.  Otherwise, I may try on Xmas eve.  Thanks for all the posts and links.  xoxo

I noticed on January 19 that the top and sides of my nose felt very tender to the touch as if it were bruised.  Like alot of the other posts, I thought I may have slept on my nose or I otherwise banged it in my sleep.  There is no visible bruising or lesions on the skin.  The pain is not unbearable.  The only time I feel it is if I touch my nose or put on my reading glasses.  This is so strange!

I normally do not post but I read this looking for myself and no one has really posted a possible answer.  This is what I found: http://www.cellulitiscauses.com/cellulitis-of-nose-avoiding-and-treating-this-kind-of-skin-infection/.  These sytems seem to match that of a staph infection of the nose called cellulitis.  Check it out with your doctor.  Hope this helps.
